How to blow into the peak flow apparatus

Can someone give me some knowlege, please. As a copd cum asthma sufferer I get 2 reviews per year. The last was a while back and I am due a second. This second one will act as a major determinant for my upcoming taxi driver's medical. My clinic hasn't used the peak fliw for over 8 years, but rather a spirometer. As I gave up smoking a little over 3 years ago (serious chain smoker) and as I have been doing some regular exercise, the spirometer readings have progressively improved, such that my lungs are in much better condition now - far, far less breathlessness and no attacks at all. However, strangely the chest nurse made me use the peak flow rather than the spirometer. Moreover she just would not let me blow into it in standard way and instead insisted that I blow into it in the way of pursed lips to a tuba or trumpet mouthpiece. It was so pathetic it hardly regestered anything. Meanwhile she refused to demonstate the method she insisted on. With my mouth placed around the mouthpiece I manage 380 to 410 (age 64, 5ft 10/178cm), which is better than ten years ago when I first got diagnosed with copd/asthma. I can guarantee that if I'm forced to use the tuba method again, I will definitely not qualify for the taxi test. So, what is the proper method, and in any case how can I insist on employment of the spirometer?

Which is the test where you blow into a big plastic thing with"pursed lips," and it comes as a graph on the monitor?

Then take a 10/15 minute break and do it again.

Is that peak or Spiro? And then they tell you you're lung age.

Also, why should it stop someone from being a taxi driver? I used to do ph
