Does everyone struggle with the feeling of going to bed when struggling with asthma. I feel that I can do something about in the day time but the is nothing more scary than being woken up with asthma

Yes. I put off going to bed when my asthma’s bad because I know that when I do I’ll spend a couple of hours struggling to breathe before I can sleep. If I’m ill I sometimes sleep on the sofa because it’s easier to prop myself up.

Nothing worse, I agree. I use my neb just before settling down but when my chest is bad I’ll often wake less than 2hrs in, in the middle of a horrible dream where I’m really wheezy but can’t get hold of my ventolin. I dread this so it puts me off going to sleep. That’s probably why I’m an insomniac!

When my asthma is bad I dread going to bed. When I’m bad I try to sleep propped up on pillows so that I’m almost sitting up. I also don’t attempt to go straight to sleep but sit up for a bit knitting until I’m feeling relaxed. I can sleep through quite a bit of coughing, although it’s not good sleep, but can’t sleep through the coughing fits, you know the type where you are struggling to get a breath in in between the coughs. If that happens I take some ventolin and sit upright for a while, maybe browse the Internet on my IPad, until things have calmed down and then I carefully slip down the pillows a bit without moving too much and try to sleep again.

The closer it gets to night, the worse it gets for me.

Hi! Do you keep up with your brown or red inhaler 2x a day at least and regular blue??

If these are not enough you may need to ring your gp and ask for a 3rd medication like montelukast or a course of oral steroids.

I keep up to date with my inhalers I am on FOSTAIR200/6 Two Puffs a day and using my Ventolin as required. I have also been on oral steroids for two weeks which finished today. I will be contacting my GP tomorrow for advice. I still have a week to go of my 14 day self isolate So have some time to get my asthma under control before I return to work

I have been to see my doctor today. My Doctor asked me to come and see them today after having two telephone appointments and two courses of oral steroids. This made feel at ease as you always feel that face to face your doctor can understand what’s going through. Now starting my third week of oral steroids and a course of antibiotics. I have also been signed off work for twelve weeks as I am classified as at high risk.
