With the new self-isolation guidelines how do I explain that my cough is actually asthma?

The guidelines say "new, continuous cough". So my plan is just to say "it's asthma".

I'm flying back to UK at weekend (from a low risk country/region with no coronavirus cases) I may have to make a sign to hold up if I start coughing on plane🤣

If you’re paranoid about judgement leave your pumps etc on the table so those nearby can see and flight attendants etc. If you’re happy to you can also tell them that they can pass on to any worried passengers that ‘the person coughing is asthmatic’. It’s frustrating but other than I bright, flashing neon sign saying ‘dw it’s asthma’ this may be the thing to do. Alternatively a tattoo across your forehead may help... 😉😅

Hope you have a safe flight

Unfortunately, few people know that coughing is a symptom of asthma but that’s a great idea anyway. :(

I would make yourself known to the flight crew. Tell that you are worried you might get looked/sneered/shouted at/attacked by other passengers. They may be able to move you somewhere less vulnerable, or nearer to themselves. And they might take it upon themselves to reassure other passengers that you are a ‘known’ cougher with asthma.

I tell people that if I cough, it's asthma and not contagious as soon as I sit down. Have a great flight, and don't worry about it.

I think I would let cabin crew know have cough with asthma, and keep reliever to hand. Are you showing symptoms now or are you worried that you might. If no symptoms now try to relax.

My thought exactly ,I’m coughing badly esp at work and have had to explain to people that I’m asthmatic and for me it’s normal esp at this time of the year for me to get a cough as I have atopic asthma which is made worse by the tree pollen etc .We were actually laughing because I’m in the change too so quite often I’m coughing and having a hot flush also I have a lot of aches and pains ,if I had to self isolate everytime I felt rough with my symptoms I’d be out of a job .I do know covid19 isn’t a laughing matter and I hope I don’t catch it as swine flu was bad enough but sometimes if you don’t laugh you’d cry xx
