Seretide and skin problem.

I took Seretide for about 20 years. During that period I developed a skin problem where the skin particularly on my hands became very dry and flaky to the extent that layers of skin would fall away and they would bleed when gripping things even fairly tightly. This could be painful. I was treated with various steroid creams over the years of which none were effective.

I did not associate the problem with the Seretide until recently. Due to developing coughing fits soon after taking the Seretide I stopped taking it and after a couple of weeks the skin problem disappeared and the skin on my hands is now normal. I no longer have the cracked skin or the painful aftermath of bleeding fingers. I was elated of course as I thought I was stuck with the problem for life.

I did change preventer to Clenil Modulite after a few weeks of relying on Ventolin. The skin condition had resolved before taking the new drug.

I'd be interested to know if others have found similar problems.

There should be a warning on the box! I was only on Seretide a few years but that was long enough to make my skin so thin it would rip off at the slightest contact. My arms in summer particularly were in ribbons. I used to wear double tubigrip for protection. Low & behold after 18 months on Fostair my skin is normal. Still bruise more easily but nothing like as before.

It's worth remembering that our bones can suffer too. I've recently broken 2 bones again so it's bone scan soon. I know I've had osteopenia since 2003 so I'm desperately hoping it hasn't progressed to osteoporosis.

I'm so pleased your skin is better 👍

I’m on Symbicort and have had two short courses of prednisone this year and have developed ‘thin skin ‘ as well. It’s really annoying but worth the price of being able to breathe.
