NDMA and rantitidine

I reckon acid reflux was a big contributor to developing adult asthma and have been on the H2 blocker ranitidine for years and years. So many brands have been withdrawn because of the NDMA scare, any of you out there still getting a regular supply? If so, what brand please?

I get mine on prescription (so get unbranded), but if you talk to your pharmacist they’ll be able to point you in the right direction 😉

Thanks but my usual brand Medreich seems to have been withdrawn. Have to try a generic.

I've been on Losec for over 20 years. I also developed adult onset asthma. I think it is the acid rather than the medication. The air passages close in defence against the acid. I am also prescribed Gaviscon Advance which I use as and when I need it. Sometimes I am very breathless but that tends to be after meals. I had an oesophagectomy and my stomach is now in my chest leaving little room for breathing when it is full! I am supposed to eat little and often. Sometimes Nexium over the counter, but only when I feel the need of something extra or if I have forgotten to pick up my prescription.

So sorry to hear that. Yes the acid definitely contributes to breathing problems. My breathing is worse in the morning after laying down despite elevation. I was on PPIs for years until I started developing blurred vision. The H2 blockers have been pretty good and Gaviscon has helped me too. I also get through at least one 48 tab pack of Rennies a week. I tried Slippery Elm supplements which were pretty good but affected absorbtion of my thyroid meds maybe they'll help you.
