20% of Your Oxygen at Risk

I’ll no doubt get severely flamed for this. But here we go anyway...

It’s common knowledge that the Amazon Rainforest provides 20% of the earth’s oxygen and is absolutely crucial in the fight against climate change - because it’s trees soak up so much of the CO2 we emit. As you’ve heard, the Amazon rainforest is on fire. The fires are vast and can be seen 400 Miles up in space. If they continue to rage, it’s not just the rainforest at stake - the threat to our species very survival from climate change impact increases to a point where the poor odds of overcoming it are too terrifying to contemplate.

If you’re concerned over the implications that this development has for the future welfare of you, your health and your loved ones then - over and above anything you may already be doing - there are two (small) easy actions you may not have heard about, that you might wish to consider.

First. These raging fires aren’t natural - they’re part of the Brazilian president Bolsonaro’s war on the Amazon. Since coming into office, he’s encouraged farmers and illegal loggers to loot the rainforest. These fires were set by his supporters to show their support for him. The Brazilian president isn’t the type of politician to pay anything but token attention to international outrage. He does, however, care about his economy. And that’s where a chance exists for outsiders to make an impact. A UK trade mission is in Brazil right now for talks. Many (me among them) are calling on them to suspend any trade talks with Brazil until the Amazon rainforest is protected. Please consider adding your name to that call (details below)...but also...

...Second. An additional (or alternative) option to consider is publicising and / or supporting the Trillion Trees Initiative (details, likewise, below).

If you feel able to support the Trade Mission Petition, please follow (or copy-and-paste) this link:

secure.greenpeace.org.uk/st...

ALTERNATIVELY

To find out about the Trillion Trees Initiative, use (or copy-and-paste) this link:

trilliontrees.org/

*Even something as simple as adding the Trillion Trees website link below your usual Email Signature (and also including it when using Twitter, Facebook, Instagram etc) would help get the word out about Trillion Trees, every time you message anyone about anything. (If you work for a liberal organisation, they might, if asked, be comfortable with you doing the same for your workplace Email Signature, as doing so can help boost an organisation’s Green Credentials. Imagine the reach if all your colleagues did it too!).

Times running out. Please copy and share this message by Email, Twitter or other Social Channels, to encourage everyone you know and care for to consider taking these steps

Thanks and Take Care

Hi Matman👌👍Thank you for your post as I found it both extremely worrying and very intelligently written and well structured. Needless to say I will, of course be copying and pasting your links to as many friends and family members as possible.

I always enjoy your posts and have never had a single problem with anything you have written.

I feel that people exactly like you are what this forum desperately needs as there’s a very real danger of it turning into a pity party and people not being proactive enough and taking personal responsibility for their asthma/respiratory health.

Well done and thank you again Matman👌👍

Love this post, the quality of our oxygen determines where I go, I avoid poluted areas, can't sit beside friends with strong perfume. Walk out the door for fresh air when my asthma flares up. Trees so so important.
