Hi everyone just wanted to ask if any of you drink alcohol ?

Alcohol and asthma
I do but have cut back since I've recently had these asthma flare ups. I found that the sulfites caused attacks so I stopped. I and will occassionally have a glass of wine. I also believe my acid reflux has flared up too which is why the onset of asthma has hit me. Why did you ask?
I ask because alcohol is a source of cortisol and cortisol is what is in steroids which are given to suppress the over active immune system and inflammation right?
Today my throat has been a bit inflamed feeling like the onset of asthma yet when I had a couple of glasses of white wine it dissappeared
Grapefruit juice is also a source of cortisol as is coffee
Cortisol is very important as a response to inflammation and allergies
I haven't been able to drink my usual red wine recently I think because it is high in histamine but drinking white wine has been ok
I have been having half a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda and GABA 4 -5 times a day and the bicarbonate has balanced the acidity of the white wine normally I get heartburn when I drink white wine
Like Krylan, those of us on the acid-reflux induced asthma side of the house will react badly to things like alcohol, caffeine, acid(citrus fruits/onions/garlic). It's possible it benefits people on the non acid-reflux side of things.
I drink quite a bit of 'real ale' and I have not found any connection between that and my asthma. In general, my asthma appears to be induced by a sudden change in air pressure, such as going from a warm place to a cold one, but then I haven't had problems with asthma that has required me to use my inhaler for about 6 weeks now.
I don’t after working out I can only have one cider then I need my inhaler... similar with any wine based food sauces (never liked the taste of wine 😉).
I think I’m better with spirits but as my asthma spiralled whilst I was at uni I haven’t really experimented 😅.
Those with histamine or sulphate allergies/triggers will most likely find certain types of alcohol give them issues.
Coffee has a natural version of a bronchodilator (theophylline) as well as caffeine being a natural bronchodilator, hence why people say that a cup of coffee can help asthma at a push
Nice of you to ask. I'll have a double whisky.
GOOD ONE YOU HAVE STARTED MY DAY OFF SMILING . CHEERS
lemon water , natural yogurt, keffir, moringa tea, ginger and coconut oil all taken seperatly at diferent makes my gerd dissapear.
Gastrologist keep recomending anti acids but if i were u i would follow nutricionist advice.
Doctors study to treat symptoms
Nutricionist study to "prevent or kill problems at cellular level"
Keep it herbal thats all i'm saying
African, asian, american, european herbalists+ nutricionist are my new friends.
Talking about Gerd?? Check for any bacteria first, then heal your gut and now u can drink.
I drink beer, wine, vodka, cofee no problems since i exterminated helicobacter pylory.
The only ocasional pain i have is the spleen organ. I drink a full head of garlic with water and goodbye spleen pain for the next 3 months !
How did you get rid of helicobacter? I was diagnosed with that decades ago, but the combination of antibiotics they wanted me to take was impossible, made me sick.
My doctor prescribed me a triple therapy for 21 days . this was my first time h.pylori treatment. after treatment i kept drinking water lemon twice a day on empty stomach and natural yogurt. the symptoms of damage stomach remains after months but then disappears after 6 months.
maybe this is why it worked for me , other people keep getting prescribed 7 days only treatment but that inst 100% enough because while you wait to find out if the bacteria is cleared , the bacteria might get even stronger than before... i followed the treatment despite heart palpitation, chest pain, insomnia 3 years (now getting back to normal), sleep anxiety , there isn't any other treatment, just this one so just finish the entire treatment, be strong !!! my dad did 60 days , no helicobacter for him. do the treatment with good diet, e.g Broccoli !!!!
I longer drink beer or wine. I stick to gin and vodka which is way better for me. Also, I've substituted coffee for espresso, I always try to eat a yogurt before drinking my latte. Everyone's different. Listen to your body, which can take years to figure out. Good luck!
I've never been able to drink anyway for non-asthma reasons. I don't seem to have an enzyme to process it so any more than a few sips is fast track drunk and hungover together.
I like to sample other people's cocktails/drinks if they let me and have learned to avoid going anywhere near gin. I react to flowers/botanicals a lot in any form ie as plants, in hand cream, in food (not allergy - some kind of direct airway reaction) and gin definitely has something in it my lungs dislike! Otherwise I am ok with a few sips asthmawise, barring the time the drink I tried had a minute amount of rosewater. Apparently I can detect really small quantities of rose - what a totally useless super power lol.
I react to alcohol and have allergic asthma so I think it's the histamines in the alcohol which set me off! This is a more recent development though (I never used to react to alcohol).
I can't drink alcohol as it affects my theophylline levels. I used to only be able to drink clear alcohol before this as coloured alcohol triggered my asthma. I have reflux to so it also makes that worse.
High histamine fermented alcohol that contains a lot of mold and/or yeast are particularly problematic (White/red wine, beer, cider etc). Apparently the cleanest alcohol is a clear spirit like vodka, preferably gluten free. Mix with soda/mineral water and add a wedge of lime or lemon.
