Hello, I had a Tempur Mattress delivered to my house on Saturday and within getting into bed that night, I suffered a tight chest and shortness of breath. I have had to use my blue inhaler and had to sleep in a different room. I then went in the room the next day and straight away I struggled to breathe, suffered with itchy eyes and a tight chest. The mattress has now been collected. Has anybody else experienced these problems? I also suffer with allergies and eczema. Apparently bed companies are not aware and have had no issues before regarding asthma related issues and memory foam beds??

Memory foam mattress gave me a tight chest and shortness of breath.
I have had memory foam toppers and pillows, and in all cases (if my memory serves me right) the instructions which came either with or stuck on the packaging mentioned the possibility of chemical smells and if so, make sure the item is aired for a few days before use. The smell does go. I agree though, it made my lungs cringe. I have severe bronchial and allergic atopic Asthma, and Eczema. The thing is to make sure it is aired properly. I am not sure I believe the bed company, otherwise why would the stickers mention to air the bedding? Air it until you can't smell it anymore, then leave it another day before use. I grew up sleeping on a latex mattress and pillow, but they can be very expensive, but then so are Tempur. Oh well... Off to look more at the smell issue...glad they took it back.
I used a memory foam topper for about 7 years with no problems but I did leave it to air in a spare room for a week before using. I'm now on my second memory foam pillow (likewise aired) and had no issues with them.
I had same reaction with a mattress topper. Left it in spare room for about a fortnight before I could use it. It has put me off getting a new mattress as they all seem to be rolled nowadays.
