Clenil replaced with Symbicort lower dose

Hi

Just after a bit of advice. I’ve been on Clenil (200x4) since September last year with Ventolin. My initial asthma symptoms came out of a chest infection.

I’ve just caught another chest infection so went to doctor to ask about management. I’d been taking way too much Ventolin and hadn’t found Clenil that effective. So the doctor has changed my Clenil to Symbicort 100/6, but only 2 x100 doses a day. Plus a 7 day dose of antibiotics.

Does this seem a bit low? My pharmacist recommended I take 4x100 doses for the first couple of days which is what I’ve been doing.

Does this still seem a bit low. I was up coughing most of last night. And still have dark yellow mucus this morning.

Also how long does it take for Symbicort to kick in? I have been getting a really dry tight throat too - could it be the Symbicort?

Would appreciate any advice you could give.

Thank you!

How are you getting on now?

Thanks for asking.

This seems like such a long time ago now! I ended up on 100x8 of Symbicort for about 6 weeks during which I got another chest infection. The doctor has moved me over to Fostair (100x2 or 4) now which I think is working a little better. I’ve been on it for about 3 weeks. Over the last few days I’ve caught a cough but I’m recovering quickly (fingers crossed).

I’m still getting a really tight throat even though I’m on stronger antihistamines.
