World Asthma Day

It's world asthma day (1st May) but funny enough I haven't heard a mention anywhere, not on tv or anything. But if it was a different awareness day, it would be on the front page and loads of money would be raised in schools etc. but no not for asthma.

Has anyone else noticed how little attention asthma / asthma UK gets?

Is it just me or does it annoy the rest of you?

As an asthmatic who has had a rough time of it since October and is only just starting to settle for the minute. I know the seriousness of it like you all do. But because it gets no notice, people think it's a minor condition when it's not.

What's your opinion, if you've seen it on TV please say you have but also tell me how good it was??

Sorry for the rant, there was no need apologies I just want to know if others have noticed this??

Thanks, love this forum

Erin

Hi erin. I didn't know it was world asthma day. I haven't sent advertised or on television. Asthma barely gets any attention and lots of people thinks it's a minor condition. When we all know it isnt. Sometimes I also think Drs don't take it seriously enough either.

I don’t have a TV so can’t comment but I’ve seen bits over social media - mostly from Asthma UK though. My biggest issue with asthma is that people don’t take me seriously, and I don’t have ‘classic’ symptoms so it can be harder for them to listen to me sometimes.

Not true ucb 1 radio station had it as one of their talking points on the show with Paul Hammond. He had an expert on asthma see my post.

Also later in the teatime show it was mention World Asthma day with how important it was to look after yourself, using your preventer snd getting a review once a year. Also how deadly it can be with England having one of the worst death rate. So no not ignored.

I work in a school and only found out when I happened to be online. no one else in my school seemed to be aware of it. asthma hardly gets any publicity in this country most probably because it is seen as a mild condition and the norm to have it

There was an interesting session on Radio 2 with Jeremy Vine with a lot of contributors stressing the need to take asthma seriously. Worth listening to on catch-up, podcast or however you can get it.

Hi Erin 001 I agree with you it should be on TV adverts about people with Asthma, around all the work place's as people just think you have a bad chest, or look at you to say what's wrong with her being out of breath.ect ect. More needs to be done.
