I have a question. Sometimes, when I am faced with triggers (I.e today with the cold weather and snow) I find that I can’t breathe, but if I stop (whatever I’m doing) and concentrate I relax and can breathe better but this repeats itself every few seconds. Usually my reliever inhaler helps, but recently I’ve found that it’s not making much difference or when it is helping I find that it’s a very temporary relief (this is being dealt with by my nurse). I also find that certain textures bring on this strange experience (like woollen jumpers).

My question is; I feel like occasionally my airways are narrowing but then quickly relaxing and opening again, sometimes with salbutamol, sometimes just with breathing slowly. Is this a common asthma thing or is it just that I have odd lungs?

Hi cold air can cause problems with asthmatics and trigger these symptoms. The answer is to try and breathe through your nose only and to wear a loose scarf over your nose and mouth when you in the cold air.

Once the air going into your lungs is warmer you shouldn't get these problem. I have a big warm snood and it's wonderful! x

Thank you both for replying - I do wrap up well and use a scarf in the bad weather but I don’t always wrap it round me tight enough. Like you both I cannot wait for this cold and snow to pass though! ☹️
