Anybody who don’t usually wheeze ?

Does anybody usually don’t wheeze with their asthma ?

Will the doc and paramedics even believe me if I say I don’t usually wheeze till it’s fatal ?

Have you been to a&e with an attack and no wheeze? How did it go?

Hi,

I have severe, brittle asthma and very rarely wheeze. I usually present with a silent chest due to not actually being able to shit any air. If you are still feeling tighter chested or short of breath I would think about going to A&E

I’m worried of going cause I have no wheeze , the gp today basically send me off with nothing just because I didn’t have a wheeze even though I had a wheezy attack not long before

I am not sure where about your are but just because you are not wheezing doesnt mean that you don't need help.

If your chest is so tight that you are not moving air properly you are not going to hear a wheeze! If your PF have dropped from your normal then I would still recommend getting checked out

Forgot to ask what inhalers, medication do you take for your asthma? and how often are you needing to use your blue inhaler?

I take the brown steroid one four times a day as a tester over xmas to see if it’s the right medication and currently I’ve taken 8 ventolin puffs today.. the past couple of days I’ve taken it around 5-6 times

You can take 10 puffs of ventolin at one time but if that does not help then you really need to go and get checked out!

I replied on your other post - agree with what others have said. I don't wheeze and have been admitted many times - I even once had them say they had heard a wheeze and it was preferable to the lack of noise I had earlier!

On your other post I have made more .detailed suggestions about where you could go eg urgent care centre or ambulance if bad, but please don't hesitate to get help if your reliever inhaler is not working.

Demand an Asthma plan - Asthma UK have a leaflet that your Asthma Nurse can complete and you can point out on that (and indeed add to it *yourself*) that one of your symptoms is that you *don't wheeze*.

I've been in A&E 3 times in 2017 this year (one just a week before Christmas). As usual they said I wasn't wheezing though I couldn't breathe and was not able to speak. It was an observation from them but I was still treated each time. 1st time I was brought in by ambulance. 2nd and 3rd I was brought in by my husband with the 2nd time being in the waiting room but triaged very quickly. 3rd time Reception realised I was in trouble and sent me straight to where the ambulances take patients - simply because I could not speak and was struggling to breathe.

I have my Samsung Tablet with a word document on it which details ALL my history on emergency visits and breathing issues this year. I just got it opened and handed it over. This saves me trying to speak. It states my current medications, AND my personal symptoms as well as previous A&E visits and any medications I am allergic to.

Eventually the document/plan (now that I'm to see a consultant) may also have what treatment *I* need in A&E/Emergency to get me breathing which will help a hospital greatly.

Wheezing is *a* symptom - it doesn't necessarily mean all asthmatics will have a wheeze. Asthma is very unique to each individual. Half the battle is discovering what your unique symptoms are and how to treat them.

The summary is a great idea - I have one too like that and I know the doctors generally find it very helpful and will pay attention to what you say about how your asthma presents. You can do a basic one on your own but may find your GP at home is helpful with creating a plan and adding those details to it.

wheezing is a late symptom for me so by the time I do have a wheeze I'm usually really poorly. I have been sent away by docs loads of times then ended up In hospital.

I always tell docs I don't always wheeze and carry medic alert ID

I hope you get better soon and if you are struggling then you should definitely get some help

I’m exactly the same! By the time I wheeze it’s been hours into an attack! Do you have a medical id? I was thinking of getting one because one of my symptoms is that I can barely talk because I can barely breath and too busy wheezy coughing, so I was thinking of just puttin “asthmatic - no usual wheeze” and my allergies eg latex etc

I wear a medic alert ID bracelet which says I have severe asthma and my allergies I also carry a medic alert card in my wallet which had more detailed information and contact details

I don't wheeze. I've never been to A&E though, even when I should have. I went to out of hours once, part way through a steroid course, but by the time I got there my peak flow was at the top of my range (although I had needed over the maximum ventolin dose that day). The doctor told me that there was no wheeze on my lungs, so to try distraction instead of taking my inhaler.

Unfortunately, I had an asthma attack 3 weeks later, but again avoided calling an ambulance. I just can't bring myself to do it.

I never wheeze even if I am having an attack. Haven't been to a&e but had paramedics coming for me, and they listened to my chest and despite not hearing a wheeze they saw that my oxygen saturation was down, so I was given oxygen and some Salbutamol (cortisone and some magnesium stuff in worse cases). They always took me seriously even if there was no wheezing. So, you shouldn't worry too much, they will (should) believe you even without a wheeze.
