Blocked nose
Hi Czkf. I seem to have a permanent blocked nose but it does get worse with flare ups. Has the doc prescribed any nose drops for you. They may help. As in my case I have nasal polyps, which can develop from Asthma I have read.
There are nose washes you can try but nose drops may clear it for you.
Hello. I have a blocked nose most of the time. I’m told I snore . I also seem to have a dry mouth all of the time. I think I breathe through my mouth in the night,
Good morning. I use sinus rinse which really gives you nasal passage a good clean and then an hour later avamys nasal spray. It really helps me.
I too have nasal polyps and use a daily Avamys spray. Likewise before using the spray I use a sinus rinse.
You may well benefit from a daily sinus rinse. Not only do they help clear you out but the cleansing also helps prevent infection.
I often have a blocked nose - going back many years when I first started going out with my wife, she once asked me how come I always had a cold. I hadn't even realised I was always sniffing (& it was always exacerbated by all the smoke in pubs in those days). I think she thought I was a bit weird.
Thirty-five years kind of proved her right, but at least not because of the sniffing.
I also have nasal polyps which meant I lost my sense of smell and taste. I have Flixonase nasal drops every day which helps to keep my nose clear. Didn't know this could be related to asthma. I am learning more from this forum than I ever have from the GP!
Likewise Gilly after years of persistent sneezing I eventually lost my sense of taste and smell. After a Christmas dinner that was akin to eating cardboard I decided enough was enough and got myself referred. That's when nasal polyps was diagnosed and I was put on the Flixonase drops. I'm surprised that you're still on them though. After about a fortnight my taste and smell returned and once the course had finished my consultant declared the polyps all gone. He put me on daily Avamys to keep them at bay. Much easier than lying on my back on a bed with my head dangling over the side so that my nose is in the right position for the drops lol.
I was diagnosed with asthma and fixed small airways obstruction after 6 years of incessant winter colds, so there does seem to be a link. Last winter, I found that taking salbutamol and Beclometosone nasal spray at night stopped my nose getting blocked at night and helped me sleep better - no one can explain why this worked for me and it might not work for everyone, but worth a try as both medications are available over the counter. The fact that I have been a hayfever sufferer for 50 years might have something to do with it (it is apparently a significant cause of late-onset asthma), and taking a couple of products which reduce allergic responses might help for that reason. Antihistamines might also help.
Lots of people suggest Avamys so it must be good, but it didn't help me. I use Nasonex when i need a bit of help with my nose.
As far as I gather Asthma and sinus problems go hand in hand, hence so many people complaining of post nasal drip. See your GP and get a nasal spray (don’t but off the counter products as they are inclined to cause rhinitis). In addition you can buy nasal strips over eBay, they are like a bone shaped plaster that has a springy centre, peel off the backing, squeeze your nose inwards and apply the plaster, it opens up your nasal passage making breathing easier.
Hope this help,
Nick
Hi Czkf
There's some information about allergic rhinitis on our website: bit.ly/2rr2NW2
This is inflammation of the inside of the nose caused by an allergen, such as pollen, dust, mould or pets. It's a very common condition, and affecst around one in every five people in the UK. If you have asthma as well, allergic rhinitis symptoms can make your symptoms worse. Having a blocked nose can also affect asthma control. As iterated on the thread if you have, or think you may have, allergic rhinitis it’s very important to speak to your GP or asthma nurse about how you can treat it. This could include a nasal steroid spray, anti-histamines or anti-inflammatory eye-drops; so ask your pharmacist or GP which treatment is right for you.
Hope that helps,
Dita
Hi , thanks for the replies I will explain my problem and see if any one knows a solution. I got a cold about 2 years ago and stupidly overused a fast acting nasal spray , I had rebound congestion for a while and then it went away for a while but then I started getting these wierd flare ups of severe nasal congestion and the tight chest , my chin gets very itchy and so does the outside of the nose . I have never been asthmatic before but the problems I've been having in the last year has brought me here . I use nasonex it seems to help a little but I still get flare ups
