999 / 111 Phone Calls

No I do not need medical help I am just curious and have questions and discussion topics.

Hi When you as an asthmatic ring 999 / 111 have you noticed how the call handler ask you what is wrong and you say asthma they say you do not sound short of breath?

Does anyone know why that is always there first comment? Is it just an observation?

Over the years I have been taught special respiratory breathing exercises so even when breathing is hard I can control my breath until I can get help. It takes a lot of effort but sometime I wonder why we are taught it if it then stops people recognising a need for medical intervention.

Anyone any thoughts?

Not sure about calling 999 but when husband has taken me to A&E the doctors lady said to a trainee doc I should be checked out further by the way I was talking - laboured very short answers. Does this help?

They ask my husband when l am literally on the floor “can she give her permission for you to speak for her”! It is called “The Prevention From Hospital Strategy” larger political implications for keeping wards clear! Nothing to do with budget. Just not the right forum to debate on here! 💕 Chloe

We had similar on the 101, a few years back, 'can we talk to your Husband ?'

'NO he cant breath let alone speak,' we get passed over to a supervisor and get asked the same again. :o ???

Paramedics said hubby was lucky as they almost 'lost' him on route to hospital. My husband needed every bit of breath he had left in him, can't believe they forced him to talk in that state.

You are so right! Excellent site for making you feel not alone with even the medical profession and their ridiculous and ultimately dangerous behaviour. I remember being in an ambulance on oxygen with nothing left to breath with the paramedic firing questions at me l had squeeze his hand once for yes and twice for no! Honestly if l could l would have squeezed something else!! Love your posts! 😊👍 Chloe
