Memory foam mattresses

I'm trying to identify what specifically made my asthma suddenly get worse. My memory foam mattress (I don't know the brand but not Tempur, it was cheaper) had a 15 year guarantee, and is now 16 years old. Could it be disintegrating and causing problems? Anyone had any experience of this?

Hi I can't see this causing a problem but you never know. I avoid anything with duck or feathers in it coz I know this kicks off my asthma. They say you should change your mattress every 8 years so maybe it's time for a new one? It doesn't owe you anything after 16 years!

Yeah, new one is £1,500 though . . . while I am happy to replace it if need be, I don't want to replace it if the actual mattress material is what I'm allergic to! On the other hand I don't want to buy a different type of mattress unless strictly necessary, I love my memory foam mattress.

Ah, decisions.

As much as that? I have seen them on shopping channels for much less than that! For that price I would expect it to last for life.

Well the current one was £800. You can buy cheaper than £1,500, but with something like this, I buy the best and expect it to last . . . my previous mattresses were from IKEA, and I went through 3 in 12 years so it does work out as cost effective.

I suggest its time for you to get the new one. You love the mattress but not Asthma have to eliminate one

Yes, but I don't know that it is the mattress causing it.

As it's that old, you should probably have a new mattress anyway. Many of them are hypoallergenic these days which would help with your asthma. They don't need to be expensive ones either - gbfoamdirect.co.uk/product/...
