Hello everyone✋️: Would would everyone... - Asthma Community ...
Hello everyone✋️
Hello Shannon you need to take your brown one every day as it haves steroids in keeps your air ways open and the blue one is for when needed for instance if u can't breathe I mainly take mine just before am going to do an activity for instance if am going shopping and it's a bit of a walk away I will have 2 puffs my asthma nurse said if I use it more than 4 times a week my asthma is not controlled x
Hi Shannon
You need to distinguish between uncontrolled asthma & unmanaged asthma. I see scary numbers of people who seem utterly clueless how to use an inhaler, then complain it doesn't work or that they have to take it non-stop.
Unmanaged therefore is when people could be well, but aren't doing what they need to do, or not doing it correctly.
Uncontrolled (in my mind) is a more severe variant, where all forms of medication have failed.
So in your case, as SarahJane says, you are (hopefully) controlling your asthma by taking the brown one every day, assuming of course that you take it correctly.
If you are doing that, but you still have problematic symptoms then I would speak to your GP or an asthma nurse.
Thankyou both for replying I've got an appointment with my asthma nurse today,I am taking my brown one everyday,I'm gonna ask if I'm doing it right😔 I've been on it for over a week now I just get really weird chest feeling, like I no it don't feel as it should x
Hi Shannon it might be worth you using a spacer if your not already I use one for all my inhalers x
I've got one,do you use the same one for every inhaler? Like my friend has been told to use her blue one 3 times a day🙈 Really confusing x
Hi Shannon I use the same one for both my inhalers x
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but...
The brown one is a preventer (contains steroids) which needs to be taken permanently even if you feel well as its effects are cumulative (it slowly fights back inflamation in the airways and can take Weeks to make any noticable difference)
The blue one is a reliever (salbutamol) which helps stop/prevent muscles from contracting and spasming making it easier to breathe and ease chest tightness... so should generally be used as and when needed (I for example took mine 4 times a day for a week when I had a viral infection a few weeks back, but had some breathing problems afterwards on and off for a few weeks so then used it as and when )
The idea is that the Steroid should help get rid of inflamation in the airways so the muscles shouldn't be contracting (they contract in response to inflamation) so you shouldn't need your blue one often (the guidelines are something like 4-5 times a week)
Hopefully that makes it clearer
And as someone else says a spacer is a good idea I for practicality reasons have one with my brown inhaler (which is next to the Ketle in the kitchen) but dont have one with my blue Inhaler (it's usually in my pocket)
My doctor put me on it because I had tight chest so should I be taking blue one? Or should the brown one help x
Brown every day and blue when needed especially when breathless
Uncontrolled/managed asthma for me was using up a rescue inhaler before I was due for a refill.... and it progressively got worse... in the ER twice a month for breathing treatments and even to the point I was using an inhaler up in two weeks.... sometimes you need a few different meds, even besides the inhalers to get it under control. A "good" month for my old uncontrolled asthma was not using my whole inhaler before refill was due.... now I have had my rescue for 2 months!! It's crazy what meds and allergy tests and staying away from triggers can do. I'd defiantly suggest getting an allergy test. Best of luck!
I seen ashtma nurse yesterday my peak flow has gone up which is good I asked about blue inhaler x
Hi Shannon,
Have you seen a consultant? Usually with Asthma while the brown is a good preventer, the blue is there for emergencies and to give quick relief. It is unusual not to have a blue inhaler. A consultant would be able to diagnose you and give you a better idea of how you are going. Ask to be sent to a consultant if you haven't already seen one.
No I haven't x
