The thing that annoys me beyond belief is people not believeing tje condition you have for example my dad had copd and people kept saying he wasnt as bad as he was saying even though he was in resus 3 times with 24 hours to live i wish people would be more caring towards eachother and also stop spraying

Poor guy, also wish people world have more empathy. They do here but in some places it's different. I think sometimes people want to play people's illnesses down to make them feel better. X

People have every right to believe what they see with their eyes. You are asking a person to believe in things they have no experience of. The onus must be on you to find ways to enable the person who has difficulty in believing the means to understand what is happening. This is not easy. Your dad tends to only see people when he is fit to do so. So if someone only sees him if he is fit they will have a very different understanding than if they also see him what he is unable to cope.

If someone has no experience of difficulty they cannot understand what difficulty is.

Not what you want to hear, hope you can help you dad explain his situation better.

So very sorry to hear about your dad. Don't think J smith meant badly. As for exlplaining how we struggle and the difficulties we face, I don't have the breath to explain nor discuss our plight

I agree, i posted the other day saying a similar thing, because my friend kept interrogating me and didn't believe the seriousness of it even though i said i could die from asthma and 3 people every day do he didnt believe any of it he was like more people die from other illnesses etc.. i was like yes but it doesnt mean it isnt a serious disease

my post was called 'friend asks me so many questions!!' i believe, it is hard to live with asthma with people just thinking 'oh you can't die from it' people need to be more aware of this horrid and difficult disease. we need to come up with a way to make people understand it and i dont know how we should do that but its an issue that needs to be addressed.

sorry for the rant :( but its something that i and many asthmatics im guessing have to put up with the society's belief that it's a minor condition. when its more serious than they think!

I suffer with vcd and am extremely lucky my friends do believe me but my dad used to have oxygen mask and people still thought he was faking if people dont believe fine but they should keep narrow minded comments to themselves hopefully theyll get something one day

yeh, most of my friends and my teachers believe and support me it is just the one or two who don't understand the severity of my condition even though i was in hospital the other week with my asthma

may i ask you what VCD is?

thx for your kind words

Yeah sorry i shouldve said its vocal cord dysfunction it makes you feel like your being strangled and causes coughing and breathlessness it mirrors asthma and can even be associated with it i also have reflux which again causes same symptoms sprays exercise etc make it worse im glad youve got good friends their like gold dust xx

Hay133 profile image
Hay133 in reply toErin001

It also makes it hard because its rate and like asthma has complications that can kill so its worrying yet to find a doctor that actually knows how to treat it

Erin001 profile image
Erin001 in reply toHay133

Thx for telling me about it I also have acid reflux but I can't only take medication when prescribed because mine is anxiety/stress related so I will get symptoms and then get given meds to last a month

I hope your coping ok

My friends are like gold dust I never used to have so many lovely friends

Just to let you know ive had mulcadine in past for mucus apparently its dangerous if you have gerd i know they give it to alot of asthma patients mine can be made worse through stress as well due op for gastro in a few months im really pleased youve got good network how you feeling tonight are you well my breathings dire even though changed diet

I'm feeling fine today, thats another challenge of asthma one day you can be completely fine and able to breathe and the next you could be really struggling which is quite hard but i think the reason im ok at the moment is because my meds have changed because of being in hospital recently due to an asthma attack

so do you get asthma like symptoms with your condition or how does it work what do you have to do to ease the symptoms, (if you don't mind me asking) im intrigued to understand more because i am interested in going into nursing ?

Hay133 profile image
Hay133 in reply toErin001

Thanks for being interested its nice to talk at the moment im off work i cant walk far as i cant breath due to constant cough it can last anything from a day to months my current one has been eight weeks i got treated for asthma for four years like i say it mirrors asthma in everyway apart from your chest gets tight and my throat gets tight my chest can occassionally if i coughed so much and got infection it took four years of battling to be diagnosed theres no cure and its almost untreatable steriods do sometimes work but i have to try and avoid triggering like staying away from sprays avoid cold weather avoid stress but as you know thats not easy and the gerd irritates my throat so its like going around in circles

Erin001 profile image
Erin001 in reply toHay133

what is gerd?

and your conditions sounds really tough and i understand the difficulty of avoiding triggers, my triggers are cold weather, colds, chest infections, stress, cigarettes, exercise, pollution, dust, and pets (which is tricky, because i love dogs so much, however with dogs i am slowly trying to get rid of the allergy, but other animals are no goes) and allergies, sprays can too, list goes on im sure you have the same problem

oh when my asthma gets bad i can often need a nebulizer too which is when i need paramedics because i dont have a home one because gps dont want me to become dependent on one and i only need once or twice a year. which is generally in winter.

i had 2 on 24th of jan which was when i was in hospital
