Medication review every 6 months...

Hi, I'm not sure if this is impacting everybody else, but appreantly it's now compulsary for the reviews to be every 6 months rather than 12.

Whilst this is great in theory, I am being refused my medication and am unable to take the half day's leave I need to so I can visit my GP/Nurse.

Has anybody found a way around this? I've been on the same medication most of my adult life, I'm 45 now, it's never changed and a review every 6 months appears rather excessive in this case

News to me, though I did query a review notification sent out for my son which came through about four months after he'd had a review. But on that occasion it was because they had decided to line up all their patients' annual review date with their birthdays, which meant that some individuals would get two reviews within the space of six months.

Our reviews are done by the pharmacy so we can go on Saturday. We do not have to go to the surgery. Can you not get a late appointment - or very early appointment so that you could see you Doc either after or before work? If not you must stress to your manager that you need this medication and you have to have time to sort it out.

Hi, unfortunatly like a lot of people I don't work close to my doctors. I leave home way before they are open and genurally get home after they close. They insist it's a doctors face to face appointment.

My manager is more than happy, it's just that I lose a days pay/leave for this.

That is a pain. Maybe you could get an agreement from your Doc to let the pharmacist do future reviews. Boots pharmacists have been doing ours for years now. Thankfully we have never been refused medication just told when we collect a prescription that we will have to make arrangements for a review before we ask for another repeat prescription and the pharmacists asks us when we can make it and generally either does it there and then if he is not too busy or within a couple of days. We then telephone the surgery to make sure they know it has been done. Hope you can sort this out. Certainly we have not been told that we have to have a review every 6 months. Maybe this is just your Doc's surgery?

Sounds like your surgery is a lot more flexible than mine. Mine are quite willing not to dispense my medication until I've seen the doctor. They only informed me after I requested the repeat prescription that it's now 6 months so I have had no notice either.

I've spoken to them twice, they are unmoved and appear quite happy for me to end up in A&E with an attack rather than any flexable choice.....

Sharp intake of breath from me! Just cannot believe it - though I know it is true. I dare say when you get to the Doc he will be as nice as pie and accommodating but you have to get past the secretary first!
