Gas Central Heating

I have just had gas central heating fitted in to my bungalow.

Any tips?

I am hoping I can maintain a constant temperature to keep my asthma more happy in the home.

Will dust congregate on radiators and pipes?

Thank you in advance

It will certainly help to maintain a constant temperature, but you will have to keep them dust free. Radiators in particular make good dust traps - particularly double radiators where the dust gets trapped between the back and front panels. The warm air they produce rises, taking any loose dust with it. You can see the effect of that most clearly if you remove any pictures tht have been hung above radiators for a few years. In our house the heating is kept off during the summer (from about May to October - depending on weather of course). Keeping them clear of dust isn't too bad. I always run the dust brush of my Hoover across the top of them during the weekly hoovering. Less frequently (but most importantly before they are switched on again for the first time in the autumn) all the the metal boxed fins at the back of a radiator (or between the panels of a double radiators) get dusted. You can get thin flexible brushes for this job, and I always dampen mine to limit the amount of dust flying off them. You'll know if you haven't done the job well enough - the smell of hot dust is quite noticeable.

Hope this helps.

I have one of those static long thin stick type dusters (with yellow plastic type fibres) which is supposed to trap the dust rather than spreading it around, It gets behind and inbetween all radiator fins, etc. I also cover my mouth and nose and have the window open when dusting and for a while afterwards. In addition we have just dropped down all our radiators to damp dust behind them and installed thermostatic radiator valves so we can control the temperature in every room rather than fixing all rooms to a temperature controlled central thermostat which inevitably means rooms will vary in temperature.

Enjoy your new central heating :-)

I have already learnt the 4 radiators can only do 18 degrees and the other lounge one does 21 degrees.

What is point in wall thermostat?!

I am warm thankfully and asthma seems to be happy so far (5days).

I will look for items suggested.

Thank you for both replies.
