Hey!! Yes course go for it, exercise is great for the lungs and can help strengthen, just be aware if becoming symptomatic and tell your instructor about your asthma the first time you go and if needs be take two inhalers, keep one either on you or in a bag and give one to your instructor!! I used to do all sorts of sports and cant wait to get stuck back in, just need a settled period to do so!! Let us know if you do decided to join and how you get on if you do!!
Xx
Definitely go for it! Just listen to your body when you first start and tell the instructor you are asthmatic. All instructors are first I'd trained and they have all dealt with asthma at some point in their job with their athletes. I do martial arts and have has some hairy moments with my asthma but all of them have dealt with it before so I didn't panic at all about feeling alone. Plus, instructors can reassure you when you start that you will be fine! Most important thing is have Fun and let us know how you get on! X
hi
go for it, i really miss the gym, but because my asthma isnt controlled yet i have been advised not to go at the moment, i used to go 4 times a week , but always ended up coughing and feeling unwell, i dont give up on anything so i will go back when i have have the ok, i used to push my self to hard i know that now, so i will have to be more sensible lol , just want to get my life back best wishes x
Kickboxing sounds amazing! I kind of want to do something like that but I'm trying to save money as paying for the gym already so feel I should use it - and most of the gym classes look boring though I like Pilates. Being a bit lazy I find I need something interesting to get me going.
Like everyone has said let the instructor etc know about the asthma beforehand. The only thing I would say is maybe check with your GP before signing up - since you're seeing her anyway - because you've obviously been having a lot of difficulty lately and it seems your heart might be involved as well as your asthma, so you should maybe be careful until you know more about what's going on there; maybe wait to join till things are more controlled or at least you know what GP thinks.
Go for it! You will struggle initially but remember to go to your own pace and build up gradually and you'll be fine. Make sure you take your inhalers and speak to the instructor beforehand and it might be worth agreeing a signal with your instructor so that you can let them know if you're having an asthma problem or just taking a break. Good luck!

Thanks y'all for the replies!
Am so glad I got quite positive feedback on here regarding my plans!!
I played football for 5 years and I rly miss it, but I am realistic and since I ended up on the bench most of the time I realized I mite be better off just leaving the team..:((
Still went jogging, but not realisable anymore with the complaints I started to get last year in the late summer..
Right now, every tiny thing massively exhausts me aswell as causing this horrible chest discomfort aka tightness and even pain, also do I get dizzy and totally out of breath..
I hope once my asthma is under better control my symptoms will ease coz right now, even just the housework is a challenge..
then there's my heart, I don't know how much this is having an effect on my complaints right now..
Will I need to be checked before I start, what do yous think??
Thank you all so much, it means a lot to receive your opinions xxx
As long as you get guidance from your gp or asthma nurse and have a plan in place for when you feel poorly and also know your limitations you should be ok. If it reasures you, you could always book and appointment with your asthma nurse before you start any sport and see what their thought are and the best ways to manage you in these circumstances xxx
Asthma and Kickboxing
I have done it for years and if anything i have felt better when training
I do it - sometimes it's a struggle (take your inhaler) and be aware of your surroundings- where I do it it is ok in summer but cold in winter which complicates matters.
