I try to avoid remembering time ITU as much as possible. Thankfully most of the time I am too ill to notice or care.

Im afraid katielou its one of them things to some people, for some of us its an all too familiar place but you never get used to it. It takrs a lot of time to recover from such a bad attack not just physically but psychologicaly too. Its good too talk about it but sometimes its best not to dwell or you may find yourself worse off?
Have been in ITU once. I remember very little about it tbh - thankfully, memories are more like fleeting memories of a dream. (I vaguely remember waking up out of being ""under"", and pulling the ventilator tube out! Seemingly I did it twice.....BAD patient). By all accounts, I sang loudly (and out of tune) a lot while I was in ITU, and the nurses were always relieved when my visitors arrived and got me to shut up.
I put on a huge amount of weight due to fluid retention, but it came off very quickly with meds.
However, I did feel very unwell for a long time afterwards (4-6 months I would say), not in terms of my asthma, more in terms of being very tired and weak. I also struggled with the emotional aspect of it - my partner had been told that I had a 50/50 chance of surviving, and that took a lot of coming to terms with for a long time afterwards.
However, everybody is different - and must have different experiences of ITU, so just listen to your own body katie-lou, and get better at your own pace. You are the expert when it comes to knowing your own body and its capabilities.
Get well soon,
Love,
Maz

Very often the psychological aspects of after care when you have been thru a trauma like being in ITU are not addressed as they should be. If you speak to you GP they will be able to refer you for some counselling that may help you deal with this.
Having been in a few itus things differ so much from place to place, at liverpool i was given councelling straight away and seen by icu nurse reg while on the ward, then on discharge was offered follow up care with icu team for a slong as needed, at warrington and manchester they follow you onto the ward but more physical then once stable thats it? I know liverpool were piloting a scheme but that was 6 yrs ago, they were folowing the patttern set by USA?
Physically the general rule is for every day vented it takes 2 weeks min to recover? pshycologiaclyy depends on alot of other factors.
