hope you get sorted soon, it seems too many dr's wait far too long to make referals. I know when Snowy wanted to be referred to Heartlands it took ages to get anyone to agree to pay for it, but all the battling paid off as they were great and came up with loads of ideas that no-one else had thought of.

Keep battling as one day you will win!

Sorry to hear that you had to make another trip to hospital. Having uncontrolled asthma is no fun.

Perhaps you could ask to talk through the BTS guidelines with your GP and discuss what you could do to move up a step to try and get better control. As I've said before, I find it really useful to keep detailed records to show the doctors when I'm trying to explain that I need more (or less) treatment:

- Peak flow diary

- Significant symptoms

- Medications that you take

- Known allergies and triggers

- Emergency visits (the date, who you saw - GP, OOH, A&E, what action was taken)

- Courses of oral steroids

- Discharge summaries from hospital, letters from specialists

- Test results

It might also be helpful to print out the asthma care PDF from this site, or the BTS guidelines so that you know for yourself where you are in terms of your treatment, and you can show it to anyone treating you.

I hope that you can get the treatment you need in order to get your asthma under control and get on with your life! Feel free to PM me if there's anything I can do.

Jo

Alex all i can say is thank you for that and as im sure snowygirl (michelle) has said to u that my thoughts are with all your family right now.

Thank you Jo i wouldnt have kept going last night if not for snowygirl and her texting me to keep me going. I did look on there and on that im stage 4.

Sorry to hear you're struggling. Difficult, brittle asthma is exhausting to deal with, I've been struggling for 5 years. Be assertive and tell the Doctors what you want and need. Take care. X

thank you. I dont know what type of asthma i have. Last night was the worst i have ever been so scared me more

Hi a-jtinker20,

Hope your well and the meds work. Go to gp and insist your referred as you cant manage as you are. Your asthma shouldnt be controlling your life, and if it is you need some help to get it in better control. Also have a chat with auk helpline as they can give good advice and a game plan to get the care you need. helpline: 0800 121 62 44 good luck. Please let us know how you get on.
