dodo tablets

Hello,

When i was about 18ish, i remember my mum saying she took dodo tablets to help her breathing.

Now i know she used to cover us in goose grease to help us breath better when we were kids.

I have since found out it probably was just goose grease & had no affect on our breathing.

But, does anyone else remember these dodo tabs?

If so, could they have possibly helped at all?

Or was my dear old ma a wind up merchant?

Hello

Dodo tablets had Theophylline in them!

And ephedrine and caffeine, apparently they can be abused!

I think they may still be available.

BUT be careful if anyone tries them - they are available OTC.

In short, yes they would have helped.

You are wrong. The Do-Do tablets this guy Is talking about were banned In the late 1980's as they contained PSEUDO-EPHEDRINE, which is similar to AMPHETAMINE and Is used In Its manufacture. (See my reply).

i jsut looked them up online..they ahve 100mg of theophylline....but having a look at my theophylline tablets they can be bought over the counter apprently...on the box you need a wee thing that says POM on it and they have a OTC on it instead.....i think in some places theo can be bought pver the counter which is worrying.

Thankyou all for your replies. Now i know they do actually exist.

I now wonder why they are available otc as people who may have mild asthma could be using them instead of seeing doc!!

No, your old Mum was being truthful. Do-Do were little circular tablets, brown and grainy In appearance and came in a green and white box. They could be bought over the counter in any pharmacy without prescription and were often abused as taking a few extra kept you awake and increased breathing and heart-rate. The main active ingredient was pseudo-ephedrine, which is used in the manufacture of Amphetamine and so they were banned.
