Dispite having asthma for 16 years it's been my Dad thats known all the technical stuff behind it. I'll be honest I don't know any of the things some of you have been saying and it's like now i've hit 18 my Dads just been like you can deal with it yourself. I'm on Clenil Modulite 200mcg and Ventolin/Evohaler (I don't know which one it is) 100mcg and I personally don't feel it working at all, I will take the blue one and it generally helps a bit but I still feel ill and my chest is tight. I have always had trouble wording things especially too doctors and teachers and people like that so I do need help but no one is willing to help me word it. What do I need to do?

Holly, follow some of the links on here tinyurl.com/y8e2stl they will hopefully give you a lot more information on inhalers.

The Clenil you have is what is known as an inhaled corticosteroid or abbreviated to ICS, and you take that daily as prescribed to prevent symptoms.

The Ventolin is a quick reliever and hopefully you don't need that very often.

The evohaler is just one type of inhaler, meaning it's the presuriesed cannister pMDI, others are accuhalers or dry powders.

asthma Uk produce a lot of helpful publications so take a look here tinyurl.com/ydsnjul and select a few that you would find helpful to read.

Hi Holly,

Hope you are feeling well today. I am terrible at wording things, so I write a list and give it to the doctor. Especially as whenever I walk in they say how are you and I say....""fine!"" PF of 50-90 is rarely fine lol.

You might want to document how many times you take your blue inhaler, how long the relief lasts and how many times a day you feel breathless. Also if you wake up at night and how often and for how long, what you did to relieve it etc.

Hope you feel better soon

Hi there,

I'm hopeless at describing things too. I used a Dodopad to take with me to appointments. Left side is plain so you can write down symptoms and how you feel and right side is divided into seven days and 5 columns. I name my five columns thus - Preventer puffs - Sleep (any symptoms)- Reliever - Why needed - Peak Flow

See them here - dodopad.com/index.html

Best wishes.
