My Respiratory consultant has told me that there is nothing more they can do for me, my GP is totally annoyed by this and she is trying to get me referred to the Royal Brompton Hospital but I know that is a very slim chance of them taking me on as a patient. I was wondering where I go from here, now that my consultant has given up on me.
Where do I go from here: My Respiratory... - Asthma Community ...
Where do I go from here
You could ask for a referral to Southampton? They are a tertiary specialist centre.
hi asthmagirl
i am totally annoyed with my cons, so i asked my GP for referral to RBH, waiting for appt, hopefully :S
i hope we both manage to get one to get us both sorted.
why u think theres slim chance of you getting accepted as patient??
x
I thought that because I do not live in London then my chances for going to RBH would be slim.
ah rite, not sure on how that works, but defo try, ask your GP for other specialist centres too
good luck

You can ask for a second opinion and also ask your GP for refer you to RBH
or other consultant xxxx
RBH seem to take people from all over the country - not just London. I've met people from Milton Keynes, Barry Island, Kent, Jersey... All over the place. I sometimes feel as though I'm in the minority because I do live in London! I think the most important criteria for referral is just that you have difficult asthma that would benefit from their input.
One of the things that I've learnt since being treated at RBH is that there is almost always something that can be tried. It might not be a cure; in fact, it might just be tweaking things to give you a better quality of life, but at least they don't give up on anyone. I felt that there was nothing more that could be done when I was referred here, and was just lurching from one admission to the next. I still spend a lot of time inpatient, but I feel that I have more control over my symptoms, and I am more 'well' when I am out of hospital. And there are still things left to try!
Thanks for all your useful comments.
