Fish Oils

Hi, hope everyone is feeling well.

My question is, has anyone here tried fish oils (omega 3 &6) long term?By long term, I mean at least 3 months onwards. If so, any improvement with asthma symptoms? Read studies which some have claimed improvement and others inconclusive.

I take Omega 3 (a veggie-friendly, fish-free one!) & I did see an improvement in my asthma, within a few weeks of taking it if I remember rightly. I've been on it over a year now. Of course the real test would be to try coming off it when I was otherwise stable, but as it's cheap & good for me in other ways then I really don't see the point in risking it! I do seem to remember that when I read to take the omega 3, it also mentioned you should take an anti-oxidant at the same time.

Hello, I used to take cod liver oil capsules but have changed to the Flax seed ones containing omega oils etc, mainly because the companies can't tell me if the fish were sustainably fished ( none as far as I know / found have the Marine Stewardship council aproved logo on them)

I take it for achey joints though. But saying that, my asthma has been a bit more less wobbly this last year or so.

I dont take omega 3 fatty acids anylonger. I recently read an article that said that a recent study showed that too much omega 3 can cause osteoporosis and other bone diseases. I dont remember exactly, but i think it said something about there being too many A vitamins in it, which dominate the D vitamins which are also found in the omega 3, and causes the D vitamins not to function properly. But that was just one possible theory, they dont know for sure yet though.

I didnt even know anything bout this thanks peeps going to skip to chemist for some capsules which ones do you guys reccomend?

xx

I know fish oil has vitamin A in (apparently eating polar bear liver would kill you, because it contains so much vit A from all the fish they eat!), but would the flax based ones?

I just get cheap ones from the supermarket. One tip though, check what else they contain! The one I've got at the moment only mentions in very small print on the front that it's also a multi-vitamin supplement, thankfully I'd only been taking it for a few days when I noticed & realised I'd been doubling up on all sorts!

I don't know if it does me any good but I take veggie omega 3, 6 & 9 capsules as well as an A to Z multivitamin and mineral supplement. Both cheap ones from the supermarket.
