I would imagine it would depend on the exact wording of your policy, and whether it excludes preexisiting conditions.
I know that on my Income Protection and Critical Illness policies, claims resulting from asthma are specifically excluded.

My partner is a legal person who used to deal with these kind of insurance claims - basically insurance companies quibble at anything so they do not have to pay. They will take your money each month but when it comes to payment they don't want to know. I am self- employed and looked at employment and life insurance and because of being female plus being hospitalised with asthma/pneumonia and a constant trickle of ill health they wouldn't touch me for a large amount ie wouldn't help my partner pay off the mortgage when gone. Life Insurance however, the benefit is they give you a free medical which will show up misdiagnoses from the limited NHS services. I could get a little life insurance but not much and if I died due to asthma zip - may pay for a funeral at best.
Hi Carole
I got life insurance easy. I do pay an extra premium though because of the asthma but if i die from it they will still pay out.
I think it's with Norwich Union.
