Warm Steam Sauna and Jacuzzi

Hi

I was wondering has anybody ever had a problem going into a steam sauna or jacuzzi with their asthma?

I've never been in one before.

I'm fine with jacuzzi, tho sauna bit dry. it makes my chest feel abit tighter if in it too long. Love the steam room as long as it ain't scented. If it's scented with menthol or pine then it triggers a coughing bout.....

I can't cope with bromine or chlorine both of which are used in public pools and jacuzzis. Private ones tend to use bromine there is a lung friendly pool/jacuzzi cleaner and I use it, you have to monitor the water more closely and I tend to do a complete water change on the jacuzzi more often if using the lung friendly stuff (which is in the workshop otherwise I would go and get it and check the name) . Can ask why you want to know as things like indoor or outdoor, private and public make a difference to answers on jacuzzis.

I am the opposite. I can cope with a Sauna but not a Steam Room. Can't stay in that long though. Jacuzzi fine. Oh I could do with one right now!

Guess it depends on the person then really!

My doctor is phoning me tomorrow so i can ask her about it and see what she recomends before i go and book it!

Kind of feel like im wasting her time asking her such a silly question really!

I go for a sauna/steam and jacuzzi regularly at my local sports centre but was a wee bit dismayed at my last visit when a man took a flask of tea into the sauna and a bag of peanuts! I kid you not and i didnt even think the two went together, now if it had been a scone... and then there was the week a man was shaving his face!!

Now i think that is pretty unhygenic really but as i am allergic to nuts i had to vacate the sauna pronto.

On a more serious note i agree with other posts regarding the potential triggers of chlorine and dry heat but i bet none of you thought about food allergies!!

Hi I got chatted up by some 17 year old lad last time I went ""do you come here often...."" I also had some bloke expose himself which was not pleasent, think of a naked michael winner and youd be on the right track.Kind of put me off, didn't want to think of a next time EVER. Think I got pneumonia afterwards anyway so bad idea for me all round.Hope you have a better experience, to be honest it wouldn't be hard!!
