Hello,

I am having an excercise test soon, has anyone had one? What happens?

yeh i have had loads, nothing to worry about! you do a fully spromertory (sp?)exam and then they hook u up to a sats monitor and to a 24 lead EGC manchine and then get u on the tred mill and they montior your heart rate and sats while u walk faster and faster on this machine. if u wanted to stop just tell em,(i had to lol) and then they do a fully sprom exam again to see how exercise affects your airways. some peoples close down and others open up (like me :). hope everything goes ok!

I had 1 too, they measured my heartrate whilst gradually increasing the speed

you do spirometry before and afterwards and the take ur inhaler/nebs nd then th do spirometry again

Hey,

I had a few last summer, some were in the high dependency unit where I had an arterial line in my foot so they could measure blood gases (for oxygen and carbon dioxide) before and after exercise. I just walked as much as I could, then stopped and my nurse specialist or SHO took blood from my line. I also had one on a treadmill in the lung function labs, I was strapped up in a big harness type thing and had ecg leads and a sats monitor attached. Again I walked as much as I could and they watched my sats drop and took an earlobe blood gas. I think mine were just to look at blood gases rather than spirometery. No biggy though really you just do as much as you can.

I have seen some people do it to the tape bleep thing but I wasn't made to do that because I needed a dr or nurse specialist with me.
