Does anyone have excema on their eyes both on the lids and under. mine has flared up badly and double base is not helping -has anyone used 0.5% hydrocortisone before. What else do eppes use?
I dont want to see GP at mo as im likely to pick up other lurgies while in waiting room so grateful for any help/suggestions
Hi, I get this under the eyes (but not eyelids) and it can be horrible. For some reason Diprobase isn't as effective there as it is elsewhere on the body, though I still use it as it helps a bit. I would be wary about using hydrocortisone cream so close to the eye - could you ring your GP/Nurse/Pharmacist for advise about this as it might be okay and help it clear it up?
The other thing I do is to put quite thick Vaseline under my eyes before bed and this seems to help stop them getting so dry overnight - but don't do it during the day if you wear glasses, as you end up with smudges and unable to see where you're going!
I used to get this a lot, it is really annoying isn't it. I think mine was related to make up and swimming goggles. I did use to use a bit of hydrocortisone (but on a Drs advice). I also used to liberally apply E45 or cetraben, which then used to coat my glasses! Sorry I haven't got any really useful suggestions.
Maybe just ring your GPs and leave a message and get them to ring you back, that is what I normally do for little things. My GPs are normally great about it, and then I send the boyfriend to pick up the prescription on the way home.

Hi there. It is best to go to the dr- you shouldn't put hydrocortisone on your face without supervision.
I have it on my face particularly eyebrows! E45 Itch Relief Cream is very good.
Hi Hopalong, I get severe eczema on a daily basis, I only ever use hydrocortisone on the face if my GP agrees, usually no more than 0.01%. Skin around the eyes is prone to eczema if already a sufferer because it is so fine, and tends to dry out easy. My flare ups improve if I use extra greasy products frequently to stop the drying out and reduce the itchy redness. I have changed to Doublebase, as opposed to Diprobase, more greasy, comes in a wobbly gel but sinks into skin like cream. Perhaps also to combat the cold weather applying some barrier cream to protect the skin from the drying effects of the weather may well head the heeling process.
people are right shouldnt use hydrocortisone on the face.... try basic aqueous cream as much as you like keep moisturing better than the steriods... my excema always flares up when my asthma does
I'm one of those people with eczema who finds aqueous cream makes things worse, reportedly due to high sodium lauryl sulphate content. The National Eczema Society had a news item on this recently - eczema.org/news.html
Best cream I've found for my skin is Aveeno, available Boots, Superdrug etc. Seems to differ from one person to another: I can't use any E45 products, others I know find them great. My mother swears by aqueous cream, I find it exacerbating. Hope you find something effective!
