re: Asthma

And what is a tendency to reversible bronchoconstriction?

Bronchostriction

Definition:

When someone has thier hand round your bronchia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And you have the equivelent of what feels like and elephant sat on your chest which incidently is called Trevor!!

I didn't know your chest was called Trevor.

My heffalump is called Henrietta

My ellie doesnt have a name then i dont have to acknowledge it!!!!

Random Procrastination

If aspirins a non steroidal anti inflammatory, how come it doesn't help your lungs? And how do things still swell up on pred? This bugs me a lot when I'm bored!

To help claryfy things Steve my Elephant is called Trever not my chest!!! Hope that settles your confusion.

Aspirin isn't an nSAID, although it is very similar.

Things swell up on pred cos it makes you retain more fluid.

Sorry if I have taken away your musings. You might get bored now.....

aw. Its ok, i still have the age old wonder of why i've never seen a baby pigeon. Dont you dare ruin that one! But thanks for enlightening me Cathy xx

NSAIDs help to remove the inflamation by acting on prostaglandins (chemiecals released by the body which can couse inflamation and also fever). Inflamation in the airways associated with asthma is not coused by prostaglandins but by histamine (and some other things with names I cannot spell so early in the morning lol) so that is why NSAIDs do not help asthma. What's more they need to be used with coution in asthmatics as they sometimes provoke weezing. I always thought that Aspirin is an example of NSAIDs though.

Asthma is defined as a condition that causes wheezing, coughing, breathlessness and chest tightness. The symptoms tend to vary from person to person and can be controlled in most people, though some might have ongoing problems. Also, sometimes the symptoms of asthma might worsen gradually or suddenly. This is termed as asthma attack. In case of severe attacks hospitalization might be required. It can also be life threatening though very unusual.
