Hello,

Since reading the forums over the past week or so I have encountered several terms that have never been mentioned to me before,so could someone explain what are type 1 & type 2 asthma and what is meant by ""brittle"" asthma?

Thanks.

Brittle asthma is ashtma that is dificult to control, it is unstable and unpredictable with frequent and severe attacks. There are two tpes of brittle ashtma type 1 and type 2. Type 1 the peak flow will vary all the time day and night. In type 2 attacks can come on very quick and without warning and usually require emergency medical admissions, between attacks people with type 2 can feel well and their ashtma seem well controlled.

Hope this helps, maybe someone who is brittle on this site can expalin easier.

take care

Brittle is yes severe and difficult to control but there is also severe and difficult to control that isnt brittle and brittle who can be controled, unfortunatly brittle has been so over used by docs , there are only thought to be around 500 true brittles which shows how rare it is. Unless you have been diagnosed this by a asthma specialist i wouldnt worry. Its nice to know what others are going through i agree but it can als carry problems itself. Asthma and its definitions still varies widely from consulatant to consultant and patient to patient.

sounds pants i know but not worth worrying about anyone elses probs but your own
