My consultant is thinking about giving me sub cut Bricanyl, I already have Bricanyl terbutaline Turbohaler dry powder inhaler as my reliever.

The question I have is what is sub cut bricanyl and how would it work compared to my current bricanyl inhaler

isnt subcut bricanyl a continuous infusion so is constantly being given into your body, so provides a continous same level of the drug?

whereas when your taking it twice a day as an inhaler you get like a trough and peak level?

a subcutaneous injection means it is given to you as a continous injection underneath the skin in the fat layer of your skin.

Hello,

s/c bricanyl is a continuous infusion involving a syringe driver and a needle (soft) placed under the skin, most often in your tummy area. It provides a continuous dose of the bricanyl 24/7.

I used Bricanyl but now use Ventolin instead.

Compared to the turbohaler, it is a much larger dose, depending on what you are prescribed.

Do you use nebulisers?

It is used as a last resort when all else has not worked...... eg nebs , steroids, other stuff like theophyllines, multiple admissions etc.

There are some threads in the archives on s/c if you have a delve!
