my sister has been told she cannot have oxygen at home, even though she has to call paramedics on a fairly regular basis. can anyone recommend a supplier she can purchase a suitable unit from?

many thanks

Hi

Do you know why your sister has been told she can't have oxygen at home? There may be a very good reason and may not be safe for her to have it. If this is the case I really urge you not to purchase it from outside sources

Hi

I think that you will probably find that your sister is not allowed oxygen at home for at least one or more good reasons. I have had it for brief periods but have chosen not to have it long termunless it becomes essential as there would be a strong chance that i would then delay calling for help as i would be lulled into a flase sensem of security about my condition when in fact i could still be very ill.

Has your sister asked her cons as to why she isnt allowed it?

Im sure others will be along soon with more info, hope this helps.

Just because your sister has been given oxygen on several occasions by trained proffessionals doesnt mean she needs or warrents it at home? oxygen is a drug and with it needs considerable consideration by health professionals, its not a quick fix.

I would strongly advise against self purchasing if its available? its can be more detrimentle to health if used incorrectly.

hey jackie M

i am a type 2 brittle asthma sufferer and have oxygen at home!

Home oxygen therapy is a very extreme treatment and is only given with good medical grounds! i.e. u have to show that your oxygen levels is your blood drop very quickly and it is thereofre unsafe for u! or u have long term low oxygen levels!

there are a small hand full of us here that use home O2 but all of use will have gone through many tests and had bad experiences! i no how hard it is when u are looking for anything that will help to keep a loved one from having a attack but oxygen is not the answer! it does not stop the attack or reduce there fequency the only thing it does do it help to maintain blood oxygen levels! u still have to go to hospital for treatment. So if your sister has not show to desaturate (drop her oxygen level) then she will not be perscribed it! to be honset it can do more harm then good in some cases! as for buying it, you r looking at about £1000 for a concentrator and u tend to have to have a prescription before they will sell it to u!

hope this helps and PM me if u have any more questions!

i am sure others on home O2 will agree with what i have said!
