i just got my piko 1 yesterday and used it a few times: is there anywhere online where you can get a FEV1 guide. Is 1.79 really low?

confused, try this link
cdc.gov/niosh/topics/spirom...
change the reference source in the drop down box to Hankinson-1999,, then Gender and race to suit, along with age and Height can be in Inches or CM.
All the other fields can be left blank, Click calculate at the bottom.
The calculated values in the second column are what you are after. Predicted is top end of normal, and lower limit is basically that lower end of what would be considered normal.
I hope the FEV values don't confuse things for you. I find that FEV and PF don't correspond. There is a reason for this, FEV measures the small airways within the lungs and is less dependent on effort while PF is large airway and effort dependent. Recording both can throw up some strange results but don't ever ask why FEV does this or that, I've not got an answer from anyone. They know what an individual result is but a patterns and the relationship between symptoms/PF doctors and asthma nurse just go blank.
