Hi

Has anyone who has taken singulair had real problems sleeping at night or a tight chest (more so than before)? Are these know side effects?

sleeping was a big thing for me @ first. made me either wide awake or very sleepy. bare with it cuz it does go! I had the shakes too with it but am fine now and wouldnt know what to do without it as it manages my asthma very well. But this cold weather is testing it though. All the side effects go after a while x

Some people do very well on singulair and their side effects do go in time.

I tried singulair for month of November. Didn't seem to agree with me though. When I did go to sleep then I had bad dreams. Mostly I was wide awake till four in the morning. Positively bouncing off the walls. I'm on Symbicort instead.

Our cat recently had a jab from the vet to stop him being sick and had similar side effects - running around the house, joyfully playing with balls of paper like a mad kitten. At 14 years old and fairly hefty, that was an interesting night. Fine now and no longer sick. I'm wondering if his jab and singulair have similar components.

I was put on Singulair in November and ended up coming off them. I either couldn't sleep or had the most vivid dreams ever, which was not too bad if they were good dreams but horrendous if not. When I saw my GP I said I actually felt like I was going mad - so I stopped those! Nothing else added in yet.

I have been very lucky that Singulair has worked where many other therapies haven't. I have been on Singulair for 3 years now and at first I had the horrible nightmares and vivid dreams, but these eased off after a while.

My 5 year old son has been on it for 3 years (come next month), so it is difficult for me to be able to attribute any side effects to it, however, the main problem we have had is that he gets very thirsty at night (yes other causes have been eliminated!) although this in itself could be due to the asthma directly. It is true that he has occassional nightmares - but not more than my other children had at a similar age. The dream itself was always the same, whereas with my other children it was more likely to have a new theme each time. He has, however, grown out of it.

On balance, the benefits far outweigh the side effects - hospital admissions have decreased I think with all treatments, you have to look at the benefits for you and ask yourself if those benefits outweigh the side effects you may have.
