Prednisolone

GP today seemed to suggest that despite 5 days worth of pred., I was still coughing because pred. only helps if you wheeze. Which, since prescribed by another GP in the practice to help stop my cough, seems a bit odd.

Any thoughts, ideas?

I present predominantly with a cough, although I do wheeze sometimes, and my consultant (who deals with difficult asthma) prescribes prednisolone if I am coughing because my asthma is flaring. In these cases it helps. However, it has also been pointed out that not all coughs will be due to asthma and sometimes I find that taking cough supressant can be helpful in this case. I only do this when I am sure that it is not asthma causing the cough, and keep a very close eye on my asthma as well at this point.

i dont weeze at all hardly only with chest infections.

I have pred for a tight heavy chest and infections and always when my inhalers not

hwlping and need help like over xmas just.

Hospital always give me 40mg and docs 30mg and always the white ones yuck!!!!!

Like others I rarely wheeze. And like others, pred helps my tight chest and coughing.

Why is it with this bloody asthma malarky even doctors can't decide what works???

I've just stopped 5 days worth of 40mg (locum tried to give me 30mg but i growled...) and starting to struggle again. Not happy.

Pred helps inflammation, so is useful in any asthma excacerbation regardless of a wheeze

This could be a doctor who thinks that it can't be asthma if there's no wheeze, so maybe that was his thinking?
