Husband's symptoms.

My husband , although not diagnosed as yet with asthma, we see the doctor next week, has all the classic symptoms --------- coughing (+++ at night) , tightness in chest, difficulty in exhaling, peppery throat and nose. The coughing is the worst with hardly any sleep. He is recovering from a chest infection. What I am quering is before you were given asthma treatment did you feel really rotten , ie, no energy , colour drained from face and generally ill, just wanting to lie around all the time? Many thanks.

Hi,

sorry to hear your other half isn't well, but to answer your question, before I was diagnosed, when I was sat in the chair the only symptoms i had were a tight chest, and shortness of breath. Apart from that I was fine.

I guess he's going for a spiromitery test, that will help diagnose asthma, but chest X-rays and bloods would be more likely for a first round of tests.

It could be simply that he is recovering from a chest infection, and also be suffering at this time of the year with hay fever.

Do let us know how you get on.

Chris

Many thanks for your quick reply. Will let you know how things go.

Hi, we cannot see your husband so we are unable to make a diagnosis if you are really worried make an early appointment for your husband to go and see your GP. Asthma can be life threathening if left untreated.

Please take care and if very worried ring 999.

Hi Mog

Last year i had a chest infetion and my astma was out of control.Left it late going to the gp and ended up in hospital.Astma is not some thing to play about with.If your husband is no better go back to the gp tomorow or ring 999 if you are at all worried.

This is how I felt and, I'm told, looked away back Jan/Feb.

My husband phoned NHS 24 on my behalf when I could not sleep, eat or speak for coughing. They said to bring me asap to the NHS24 doctor at our local hospital. The Doc there said bronchitis and suggested I may have asthma. Sent me home with fistful of inhaler and weeks worth of oral steroids. Spirometry test at my own GP's confirmed it. I have asthma.

If you are in any way worried over husband please give NHS24 a call.

Hi everyone, thankyou all for your replies. My husband visited the g.p. yesterday, 9 days after antibiotics finished. After examination doc. found crackles in lower left lung so repeat chest xray needed. But his peakflow chart was much improved.Full blood test normal. However cough is no better, has prickly itchy eyes at times, red rings around eyes and nose feels inflammed. All this was told to g.p. ,after chest examination he said there was no wheezing so although this maybe an allergy he didn't think asthma. After much persuasion he gave him Salamol CFC inhaler to use as required. To return after chest xray results back.

Any thoughts?
