My consultant has ordered a bone density scan for me because I frequently take steroids. What does this entail? Is it a normal x-ray, more like a CT scan...I don't know what to expect!
Hope you are all keeping well in this silly cold weather
Also known as a dexa scan, totally painless and quite relaxing test! Usually you just lie down with your legs up and an x-ray type arm things goes other you. They then compare your bone density with normal values of someone your age, height etc. Usaully you get the results right there and then. Can tell you if you have osteoperosis or thining bones, also known as osteopenia.
Hope this helps.
