I'm so jealous. I missed out this year as lung function was too low. And now been told the government / health board not funding any more treatment.... It's done in 3 stages . And done via a bronchoscope into the lungs ... They use heat to damage and reduce the lining to the airways. Thus opening up the airways... Plus it stops them becoming inflamed In future.... It's still in its infancy so long term benefits or side effects not known yet .... Hope this helps

There have been some quite promising early reports about bronchial thermoplasty from Australia, I think. I'd definitely be interested in finding out more if it were offered to me.

Please do let us know if you decide to go ahead and join the trial!

thanks ...

im just waiting for a date to do tests before i can start it, im a bit dubious because theres not many statistics about it yet, but to be honest i'll try anything now

Im desperate to get onto this trial in Glasgow - there are only five places up here Im told. There are some super links about this procedure & it seems to have been used to great effect in USA & Canada for over ten years. There have also been studies (four years) done in UK - Birmingham I think, with patients followed over a 12mth period & again results are very positive after initial healing.

Two of my consulltants have now agreed to refer me & the letters to Glasgow have been sent, in the interim however, one of my consultants has suggested I try Xoliar & my concern was - would this negativly impact on my suitability for thermoplasty -

If you get any answers from your GP etc, Id be really grateful to hear them too if that was possible?

Many thanks!

Where in Glasgow are u getting referred to scotia. I know that gartnavel has no places for this year and been told that. No further funding is available . Tho they are pushing and Presenting further evidence in march to get more funding. ...

Chelsea and Westminnster have also been trialling it for several years now. I was recomended to return for treatment for later when there 18 months ago (though i was only visiting the UK at the time!)
