hamsters

ive recently adopted some rather cute baby robrovinskis dwarf hamsters and was wondering what other hamster handlers use in the cages as saw dust makes me ill

currently switched to wood shavings

Hello, we too have one of these 'noisy at night' creatures!!! We use shredded paper in the cage.

Hope this helps.

Jane.

is that as opposed to wood shavings? i use the soft cotton bedding for them to sleep in, even tho i end up finding half of it in the tubes and dining dome

thanks for that

I always thought you werent supposed to use shredded paper because of the chemical content and dust.

maybe, will try shredded paper with them

although one of my HE's might be a SHE

I think sawdust for hanimals is meant to be dust free anyway because it makes the animals sneeze! Also it could depend on the brand of saw dust - it could be made from different types of wood and some are more allergenic than others. eg Pine Dust! Shavings may be better as long as dust free.

My hamsters had fine and coarse sawdust as far as I can remember.

Oh, and they will take their bedding where they like! You can't always predict where they want to sleep. Some of mine used to make their beds by or even on the wheel! One even pushed its food bowl to its bed - Lazy beast!

Oh and if you do have a he and a she..............................more hamsters!

I haven't had hamsters for over 10 years now. Had the long haired ones mostly.

thanks kate, i'm pretty sure theres a guy and a lady there, saw him mounting her, poor thing

at least he took her to dinner first lol

Hi Wendy

My daughter has a hamster and use wood shavings in his cage and he has the fluff to sleep in! I dont clean his cage as he is her responsibility but my cons keeps hinting that i really should get rid! Break my daughters heart?? I DONT THINK SO!

Kymiii

that sucks kimmi, its hard sometimes for cons to understand how attactched we get to our pets :(

and it looks like my hamster is pregnant so in about 3 weeks we shall have a litte bundle of joy, but i will put her in her own cage. very exciting :D:D:D
