I was a waitress for all of about 2 weeks, at a very upmarket golf club. I quit after getting my bottom pinched by leary old men. The boss said it was part of the job. Don't think so !! My tip would be - preserve your dignity.

Good luck

thanks poggins, if any leary old guy pinces me i might make it a point to whisper in his ear, ""I have a boyfriend"". they might get the picture lol

I was a waitress....yep you've got that right a blind waitress! I found that smiling and being polite despite how rude the customers were really helped. I used to try and be really good at the jobs I enjoyed so that I could do them more. My main duties were making deserts, I was the only person to know all the desert specifications off by heart, and checking whether everything was ok with people's meals. I once got a badge for finger spelling tiramasu to a deaf lady!

The uniform I wore was awful, orange shirt with black trousers and a black pinny. It used to be a pink skirt with blue, yellow and pink blouse! Yuck! I did get a discount at pizza hut though as I worked for the Whitbread group.

It was only a summer job while I was at uni, they even invited me back to work one christmas when I was at home visiting my parents from my first full time job.

Just out of interest - what questions did you get asked in your interview?

Many many yrs ago pre kids I worked as a waitress for a while... One very busy night I was rushing about and dropped a knickerbocker glory on a customers lap! It was one of those slow motion moments where you see it happening and cant stop it. Well to make matters worse I burst out laughing and was spluttering an apology with tears of laughter streaming dowm my cheeks lol . The whole situation was made worse by the fact the mum was restaurant hostess at time and had to go and apologise on my behalf...

Another night I kept a customer waiting for ages while I hunted about for a finger bowl, I thought it was a specific type of bowl, no one told me it just hot water in bowl to rinse fingers after he ate his seafood or whatever!

Needless to say I didnt make a career out of waitressing!

Wear comfy shoes

got the comfy shoes and very smart white tee, i didn really get asked many questions, just who i was, what i was currently doing and why i applied. then they went on to ask when i could start and gave mt next thurs as a starting date..

an odd interview but a good job, thanks for the advice :)
