I,m fairly new to this malarkey-how often,if at all, does your signal cut ;out-mine seems to be doing it fairly regularly even though all the lights are on at the router-I do live pretty close to a BT centre with its attenndant emergency services masts-any chance they are ""interfering"" ??

Mmmm! I have had no problems at all with my wireless and I am 2 miles from the BT station in the centre of town.

Also my laptop sits 5 cm from the router!

Though I can't get the software for wired connection to work................. LOL!

It is fine on the old computer though...

Not sure if masts interfere..... do you have Broadband filters attached to the BT socket and all other phone sockets?? That should help!

Kate

Not very often! If the signal is quite strong then it shouldn't cut. Sometimes interference can occur from neighbouring networks. Try seeing if your computer can pick up other wireless networks in your area - and if there are see what channels they're using. Channels are numbered from 1-13 on my router and it's supposed to be best to operate at least five channels from any other. That's probably the easiest thing to try, not sure otherwise.

Thanks for the help ladies,I think I have inadvertantly found the solution ;the little wireless LAN ""switch"" on the front of the laptop seems to be very touch sensitive and merely brushing lightly against it seems to be disconnecting it-technology;MEH!

Glad it was as simple to solve as that!

Happy surfing!

PS just installed a Dongle on mine! Had to do it twice because of Vista being awkward. Can now top up and surf anywhere!
