I'm new to this website, but am soooo glad I have found it. I have been battling with my GP for ages over the fact that he thinks my 2 yr old 'may' have asthma. His symptoms began last year and this year have got progressively worse. Eventually he was put on the preventer inhaler and the tablet, but he is still suffering so much at night with the coughing and being sick. Today...after many sleepless nights, days off work and seeing my poor baby suffer so much, my GP has referred him to a specialist.
Both my grandparemts on my maternal side suffered terribly from asthma, but until Max started getting the symptoms I didn't realise what an impact it has on the person who has it and the family as a whole. I have cried myself to sleep so many times breaking my heart over how much Max is suffering and am so relieved to have found this site. I had a quick look this morning before I went to the GP and it was a godsend as I asked questions from info seen in posts on here and I def think it helped.
As I'm writing this I am feeling very tearful as I feel a sense of relief that my GP is finally referring Max to see a specialist and alos that I have found this site and don't feel so alone anymore.
Must go before I blab on more, but just to say if anyone has any ideas on diet, environmental impacts etc on asthma that I maybe able to use in helping Max I would be so grateful.
Welcome to the forum, hopefully Max may be on the verge of getting to the bottom of his problems. Family members of asthmatics often find things hard to cope with as seeing a loved one with breathing problems is so distressing.
Hopefully you will find help and support on here and make some friends along the way.
You are not alone and it is good to have a means of letting off steam and this forum certainly provides that.
Poor Max I hope you get an appointment with the consultant soon. My son is 6 years old and has asthma and is also under a consultant. Does Max respond to his blue inhaler well? there is nothing worse then listening to a child coughing at night. One thing that may help at night is to wash all your sons bedding at 60 degrees and to wash or freeze his soft toys over night, this will kill off the dust mites which are a common trigger, but it does need to be done everytime you change the bedding.
I hope Max's asthma settles down soon.

Thank you so much.....at the moment Max has to have alot of puffs on his blue inhaler for it to make any difference. I wash all his bedding at 60 and also have started dusting his room with a wet cloth on a regular basis (have been doing this anyway, but trying to do it every night).
It's heartbreaking isn't it listening to them coughing, and on most occasions Max ends up being sick. It's really mucousy and seem's to clear his chest and after a fair few puffs of his inhaler the symptons calm down.
If I'm honest none of my friends understand, my sister smokes and trying to get through to her is hard work and my husband isn't that supportive either, so I really feel like I'm dealing with it all on my own. It's so nice to hear that we are not alone in this and it is so good to be able to chat about it on here and that people compeltely understand....nearly crying again....I must pull myself together!
Poor you I know exactly how you feel and the trouble is so many people have such a laid back approach to it, that you end up feeling alone. This site is fantastic for reassuring you that you are not alone and lots of people have some great ideas and knowledge to share.
You poor thing. I can relate to the coughing/vomiting as Maddie does it too. She also gets the egg White mucous type production. Horrid.
All i can really suggest is to maybe keep a diary as to his symptoms daily. We do this as our community nurse has suggested it. It really does help to show the professionals what you are going through. Also if possible, video or record him. It sounds tricky but does help the consultant see the extent of his problems. We took photos as Maddies face swells and her skin goes purple and mottled. When I showed the photo to the consultant, she really did take things seriously.
I hope the app comes through quickly. Keep going back to the gp too in the meantime. I was told if they don't see you they think things are ok. mad die often needs Pred to sort her night time cough out for a while.

hi i no exactly wot u mean my boy is 3 in may hes been suffering since he was 8 months and still the gp is trying to get sum controll ova it, they finally diagnosed him in dec cause they finally saw the ful exstent ov wot he goes thru, he coughs and chokes till hes sick and even then he keeps going pumps help reiss but only 40% of the time they av got him on stronger dose ov steroid tabs atm to try and get him bk to sum kind ov normal it tuk um so long to even think bout controll it the gp told me its guna take alongtime to get his chest bk to sum kind ov norm, my partner has a laid bk approach and none of my family av ever really bovd bout me neva mind my babies, avent seen um since b4 xmas any my daughter is now 8 months and the cycle has now started again both on pumps both struggle a hell of alot ona day to day basis, ur right this site is incredible, 2 days ive known bout it and already so many ppl av been so friendly, if u eva wan sum1 to talk to i am in nearenough the same boat as u im as much as a gd listenere as i am a gd talker lol x x x x

I read the part on here about dealing with an asthma attack and what to do. I followed this when Max was coughing last night and after 4/5 times of puffs on his inhaler every 5 minutes he settled down and wasn't sick....so grateful I have found this site as my GP has been pretty rubbish and even after one night I feel much more confident in knowing how to deal with it all.
Still want to cry all the time though...I am such a woose....but I love my baby so much and feel so sorry for him and I don't know why, but I am feeling guilty as if somehow it's my fault.
