Knee flare up

I’ve been suffering a flare up in my knee since Sunday that’s showing no signs of improvement yet but it’s a bit different to other flare ups I’ve experienced in the knee.

In the past I’ve had major swelling and fluid buildup that restricts movement and causes pain but this time the swelling is nowhere near as bad apart from a hard boney lump just below my knee at the top of my shin bone and the pain is very intense, zapain is barely making any difference. I can’t stand up because of the pain and there’s intermittent throbbing pain that lasts for about a hour at a time. The knee is painful to touch in places especially around the boney lump. Has anyone else experienced a flare up like this at all and knows why it’s happening?
