Just curious as to why you are taking Omeprazole. I changed my diet and stopped taking the tablets. Just cut out certain foods. Specialist just wanted to up my dose and knew nothing of diet so as I had a good idea of my triggers. Also I got kidney stones twice which can be associated with taking Omeprazole . So just try removing processed foods, and drinks with refined sugars and flour, biscuits, cakes, pizzas ready meals etc. I have only had about 2 Omeprazole in the last 3 months. We must spend millions on antacids which aren’t really necessary!

Hi. Thanks for yr reply. I already have a healthy diet, no sugar or refined foods, plus

not overweight & no alcohol etc. I have never been overweight. However, I suffer with Gerd & have now developed Barratts Osoephegus. Have had ablation on small ulcers

inmy osoephegus. All this has happened since last June. All a shock. However, have had

a lot of stress in last 2 yrs. my husband has been ill, still is ill. But I did like & eat spicy

food, which I no longer do. Now specialist consultant has prescribed Omeprazole

20 ml. Plus Gavisgon Advance. Will try & reduce the Omeprazole, or go onto something

else like Lanzaprazole, another protein pump inhibitor. Apparently research is ongoing into genetic influence & Barratts Osoephegus. Thanks for your comments.

Thanks for reply. I just worry that its just that so many people point a finger at the wrong foods like spices , tomatoes, wine etc (as they do in the ads git Gaviscin etc) when in fact it’s more bland stuff like bread and pastries, and cream and cheese are the culprit and that induce the stomach to make more acid to digest them. I love pastry so have to make my own whole meal when I can be bothered which means I don’t have much pastry! I’m shocked at the number of younger friends who take Omeprazole daily rather than change diet. Not all will have the condition you have and I hope you find a long term solution to your problem. I just hated having cameras down my gullet so glad I don’t have to face that again! (And I have eye injections for AMD and that’s bad enough ...but still preferable to the cameras.)

Your right about diet. Fortunately, nearly all my grandchildren are healthy.

(I have 6). I agree too many people eat Rubbish food. Actually, my brother- in law

a retired GP, Fasts for 24 hrs every week. He says this allows the organs to cleanse

& rest. Many prisoners of WW2 were starved. The ones that survived, frequently

reach v old age, well into their 90s to 100 plus. I’m not advocating starving oneself,

but there maybe some science in this. I wonder if there has been any research on this. Injections into the eye, I just cannot comprehend. Must be v painful.

My father survived POW camp but died at 65. The fact is that people generally live longer than previously thanks to modern medicine whatever their part in the war. Rationing was probably a big factor in preventing some heart disease but cigarettes and alcohol shortened the lives of many. I just don’t believe there was some golden age of lifestyle but guess the rationing helped. I still have a ration book. I think I’m owed some orange juice and cod liver oil!
