I have recently been prescibed spironlactone. It made my potassium numbers go dangerously high. I was told to take it on alternative days but still no drop.

I was then told to stop all together and numbers reverted to normal.

I was felling very well taking the med. and would like tpo knpow if there is an alternative diuertic?

My husband had to come off spironolactone due to high potassium issues, eventually he was put on furosmide

It also creatinine & uric acid levels in a long run. But it's a wonderful loop diuretic which spares potassium and increases our longevity. When my potassium levels rose my cardiologist discontinued losartan & continued with spironolactone. Please consult your cardiologist before changing spironolactone. Of course there are many choices such as furosmide, thiazide & toresemide (alone) etc

I take Spironolactone 25 mg plus Fuorsemide 40 mg (although I was on 120 mg for a short time) daily and have been on this regime for a few months now to try to keep fluid retention at bay which was causing me problems with breathlessness. (I have permanent AF and CHF} It seems to be working and I have my bloods checked regularly for potassium and so far so good. However, as is often noted on this site, we are all different and what works for one won’t necessarily work for others.

Hi I moved from spironolactone to eplerenone as it didn’t seem to have any unwanted side effects for me.
