Do you avoid caffeine? (e.g coffee, tea, soda) due to Anxiety

When I had a relapse I completely stopped all stimulants, even alcohol as this brought on panic attacks. I do not miss it at all. I wasn't a big drinker anyhow. I cannot live with out tea and coffee though, so switched to decaffeinated. I also drink herbal teas and have a cup of camomile before bed. It helps.

I am exactly the same as you. No caffeine or alcohol and i dont miss it at all. I exercise a lot too which really helps

Hi, I cut-out caffeinated drinks prior & during work shifts when my anxiety was at a heightened state. Now I drink more decaff, during either paid work or volunteer work shifts. Doing this has been a great benefit to me and drawing less 'concern' from my colleagues. There are natural/herbal supplements 'out-there' for anxiety issues that need to be researched by the individuals concerned. But, they need to be taken in tandem with the use of mental tools i.e. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

It was crazy I'd start to get lightheaded and nervous whenever I drink a coffee so I'd take a tranquilizer! It was inevitable that caffeine had to go!

I enjoy tea and more so when anxious. I moderate my intake when i feel it may be stopping me sleeping. It is also a social activity for me.

I cut out caffeine and also reduced my sugar intake. It certainly helps reduce anxiety

I haven't drink any coffee, tea and soda for 10 yrs. I do drink one or two mixed drinks on the weekend, but my doctor told me not drink any alcohol for a month until the next blood work.... but, I may not able to drink any alcohol after seeing my doctor again.

I consume much less. I do like cans of coke cold from the fridge but only ever de-caf. I have tea during the day but in moderation and try to avoid coffee.

I was sleeping badly and realized it was worse if I had drunk Coke and then Coffee so I stopped drinking them and I sleep much better now

It may seem strange but i actually love caffeine. It gives me far more energy and almost makes me more calm. I feel more awake and motivated. However if I have too much it does make me have panic attacks and stuff. But having like, a coffee in the middle of he day is actually useful for me

Hi,

I drink tea in moderation, and 1 cup of coffee if I am out for the day.

I tend to take a bottle of water with me at all times, and find that if I don't eat at regularly intervals I will feel anxious.

I found that a cup of coffee tastes great and thoroughly enjoy it, any more I found that it actually creates mucus and hence interferes with my breathing, someone suggested that perhaps coffee increase anxiety,hence the mucus, I am open minded on that aspect. I tried with Green and black tea and I am fine.

I certainly have nothing against coffee I crave and love the smell of freshly brewed coffee and just for the record prior to be diagnosed with COPD, I lived on coffee, without exaggeration I would probably had about 15 cups per day of freshly brewed coffee. I couldn't stand instant coffee then and I can't stand it now.

what about cigarrettes? i cut out caffine but does nicotine act like caffine? im really struggling with my anxiety.

I fell for the trap of thinking Green Tea doesn't have caffeine in it - it does! Thankfully there's a decaf version so I can still enjoy all its benefits.

Generally I drink strong black tea without sugar. Also strong, black coffee with a sweetener, sometimes I will put whole milk in the coffee and I have no problems.

Mind I do fall sometimes although that is caused by dizziness from my neck.

Now I do drink in moderation twice a week and generally this does not cause problems as some drinks with alcohol have something like caffeine that causes dizziness additional to the alcohol. Alcohol is a very complex drug

Dear SimonHU,

I am aware that there appears to be a link between caffeine and anxiety. I have also read that this appears to manifest after 5 cups of coffee. I tend to drink roughly that amount. I am possible sensible with the amounts of caffeine i drink.

other - it probably does make a difference, but I do like tea! I try and only have decaf tea after about 6pm though. I don't really drink coffee or soda anyway.

When I was first diagnosed, especially while medicated, I cut out all caffeine.

I definitely felt better.

Now, a year after coming off my medication, I have the odd drink of coffee. Still fairly rare for me to do so, normally half-caf at most.

One of the best pieces of advice that I was given from my doctor.

I didn't know caffeine did anything in terms of anxiety, can someone fill me in?

I've switched to decaf as precaution but heard it can play havoc

On emotions etc and I feel if I now have caffeine I'm more aware of anxiety etc

Well caffeine and sugars are bad for magnesium depletion so avoid if you don't supplement like I do, it will only lead to further anxiety symptoms. Caffeine is something​ I like, gets me mojo going !!

I stopped any and all cold turkey for over 2 years and it made no difference at all in that time. So I drank ice tea again, not a coffee drinker at that time, soda of choice has none anyway. Started coffee this past winter for warmth, regular. Switched to de caf for the taste prefer Folgers instant decaf for some reason. Don't drink hot drinks in summer, I consume Crystal Light or almond milk more than anything, hate water.

I used to drink about 5 McDonald's sweet teas a day. Stopped cold turkey. Do drink crystal light tea now but it's caffeine free

So when I drank coffee for the very first time it made me VERY ANXIOUS and like bouncing off the walls i began to continue drinking because i knew in my head it was the coffee working so now i can srinm laege coffee (one a day) to wake up no espresso shots just caramel iced coffee with almond milk and light ice at dunkin donuts and im good to go yeah sure i get occasional feelings of being un easy but i know its simply anxiety and i get past it because i dont think twice about it oddly enough if i can do that with coffee why the hell cant ido it with my agoraphobia -_- for leaving town .. any way alochol i have yet to master i ger VERY ANXIOUS if i drink more than one beer but its weird cause it will hit me THE NEXT DAY so idk if anxiety is part of my hangover or what but i just stop drinking alcohol all together no point its a waste of money and the after effects SUCK yeah sure i get wild and have a great time but who wants to feel crappy aftwr?
