Hi there :)

My Dad had bilateral PE and then a DVT was confirmed in his leg. They couldn't find a cause and he was put on warfarin. He was very unstable on warfarin- his INR rose so high it was at dangerous levels (they reversed the effects of the warfarin using vitamin K drops because he was at risk of haemorrhage.) they couldn't work out what was wrong but later tests showed he had liver cancer and this was the reason his blood was clotting in the first place. Apparently this is commonly seen in older patients (my Dad was 57) who have no other risk factors for a DVT and are not able to become stable on the warfarin. My Dad was much better on clexane- the heparin injection.

Obviously this might be totally different to your husband's situation but I thought I should tell you our experience in case it helps you to gain more information or more effective treatment. Good luck with everything, Abi
