Research and Future of Osteoporosis Treatment

Hello. I am a 52 year old male that has just been diagnosed with osteoporosis. I have an anxiety disorder and could use some encouragement and reassurance, which I know can sometimes be in short supply. If you have an optimistic point of view, you might write me directly to offer some comfort if that is allowed here.

One thing that could help me in particular would be to hear about thoughts / expectations for what ongoing and future research might uncover. I can do web queries and find a few articles along these lines, but I expect there are some medical futurists or resources that I am missing or unaware of. Something about stem cell research expectations into reconstructing bone looking 10, 20, 30 years out would be interesting (even if naturally speculative). Thanks to you all.

hi…know you are not alone. I learned a lot from Dr Doug Lucas. His videos on YouTube are very helpful. My PCP is watching them to help learn more instead of just giving me a pill. I hope this helps you. 🙂

I looked up Dr. Lucas and watched a few of his videos. My favorite was the one on exercises for osteoporosis (here's the URL: youtu.be/d0efnzv6Qpo ). His video on supplements was also good. He recommends a pretty strict diet though: enough animal-based protein and non-starchy vegetables and fruit. He says limit nuts, legumes, and grains and completely avoid wheat and corn. Basically a Paleo diet.

Your not alone. I was diagnosis with Osteoporosis a month and half before my 52 Birthday. I was upset because I thought my diet and the exercises I was doing would prevent this until I was much older. However, my doctor told me I am prone to Osteoporosis because I am petite and small bone. I am not sure what type of research or treatment will be available in the future. After doing research on how I prevent making Osteoporosis I decided to be thankful that my doctor had me do a Dexa scan now so I am aware of this now and can do things that can hopefully prevent having a fracture by being careful and not falling or bending. I recommend looking up Magaret Martin and Susan Brown for information.

that is my “build” too. Sadly dexa does not adjust for this. I lean toward the z-score for more help. I may drive about 11 hours for a REMS study to gain more info. I hope you get help, too.

Hi, just saw your post. Sadly its a wake up call for many people who may think Osteoporosis only happens to women. Yes, agree with everyone. I am a kidney transplant person post of 1 1/2 years. On top I also have osteo and two bulged disc. of L4 L5. Not a happy camper. It is painful as all get out and I am pretty pain tolerant yet some day even crying does not help.

The following is based on my own experience. I am not a dr. First unfortunately I can only take Tylenol due to my kidney transplant. . Others people can have other medication for Pain with the danger of addiction. There are many medication which can be prescribed yet you must educate yourself on all the real side effects from these med especially if you have other medical conditions. Some people are prescribed med have one or two side effects, some people are okay depending on many factor.

, For for pain, I use cbd balm, it comes in different strengths. Nothing orally. 2 tylenols when pain is really horrific and rubbing CBD balm ( does not inter the blood barrier affecting other medications one may be on. My ortho approved it's use. I rub a dab of 1/2 teaspoon on area of worst pain and works for me, Not to say it will work for others,

I may be worth a try, again especially if you are on other medication. Blood test will reveal if you need magnesium, VIT D and K, Walking with weights and walking as much as 1 mile or two if you are not in pain. I wear a flexible velcro wide support belt which can purchased at a medical supply store, PS> medicare doesn't cover this. The key is to find a good dr who has treated people so their osteo diagnosis does not become worse. Reversing Osteo I Can't tell you if that is possible it's an individual situation according to many variables. You just do not want to decline with your X rays or MRI results or have the vertebrate or hip bones get worse. I also walk with 2lb weights on ankles, hips and wrist. This is weight bearing. Then there are tons of supplements on market that people take, ITs a personal decision. Good luck, hope this helps. Oh,, Yes, you may ask request PT from. your doctor for more mobility. As a f friend told me, Cry to dr if you have to, IT' works sometimes.

Hello! late reply - but I am trying bioactive collagen based on studies showing it can improve bone density. The specific study was done by Gelita - who is the ingredient manufacturer - but still, I am hoping it is valid. The ingredient is Fortibone and is available in many bioactive collagen products. I am trying out 2 different manufacturers - Vital Proteins Professional Bioactive Daily Foundational Support and Sparkle Wellness Collagen for Bone Mineral Density. I am in the U.S. and used ConsumerLabs to verify ingredients. If you have access to that you can subscribe or possibly get it for free through your library's e-subscriptions. The Sparkle Wellness product says to use 2 scoops, but the study was based on 5 grams - so if you only use one scoop you will meet the 5 grams from the study.

how are you doing, FrogLeg ?my Dad is older than you by far,

he has been diagnosed with osteoporosis and is fine.

he eats healthily and is active, quite fit,

had fallen over 5 times in the last few years and has been fine.

he isnt unsteady, just does a lot and sometimes doesn't look where he's going and has tripped over stuff.

so let the diagnosis motivate you to do things that will help,
